The Pentagon says the highly-accurate satellite guided missiles, launched from two ships in the Mediterranean sea, hit every target with pinpoint precision.
It took launching 61 missiles total to put 59 on target. One missile failed, and another had to be aborted. In both cases another missile was launched to take its place.
The Pentagon released imagery that shows hardened shelters were no match for the cruise missiles. Each of the targeted shelters had a hole in the top, and charred airplane wreckage scattered nearby.
The U.S. is still doing a more complete assessment, but estimates 20 Syrian warplanes were destroyed either in bunkers or in the clear.
In addition, a Russian-made surface-to-air missile site and its associated radar was destroyed, essentially rendering the airfield unprotected against a future attack, at least in the short term.

Snicker, FRiend.
That’s funny. Another freepers said we incinerated them and that’s be why no one suffered from the chemicals.
IIRC ISIS doesn’t have much in the way of fixed or identifiable military assets.
Just gangs of guys in civilian vehicles mixed up with other civilian vehicles, of in nondescript buildings along with civilians.
So tell us about your personal experiences fighting Assad - you know, the ole body count and such. Stack 'em high did you? Calling others cowards usually means you got your own hands deep in the gore and gristle.
Maybe some folks think that this action was not in our best interest. Maybe some folks think that it is not in our best interest to seek revenge for every war crime... or in this case avenge Obama's threat.
On the other hand, maybe this was all a prearranged deal to destroy the nerve agent that was actually stockpiled there. Okay, so fine. But cowardly to question it? Are you the resident authority?
Agree. I just hope this is the end of it. ISIS whacks off kids’ heads, and we freak out over this?
Waiting for someone to reassure me that this was a good thing.
I’m not even a Trump fan, but your posts demonstrate extreme anti-Trumpiness.
BTW, the opinion of the blogger you linked is duly noted and discarded.
“your posts demonstrate extreme anti-Trumpiness.”
I don’t agree with bombing a country that didn’t attack us because he saw some sad pictures on TV. Not the policy I voted for
“What good are 59 missiles hitting an airfield if they dont even stop jets from using it?”
The objective was not to render the runways inoperable. The objective was to hit and destroy:
- The planes capable of delivering the chemical weapons.
- The ground support equipment need to load the chemical agents onto the planes.
- The personnel familiar with loading chemical agents onto the planes.
- Maintenance personnel.
- Ground support equipment for servicing the planes.
- Hardened hangars.
- Chemicals storage bunkers.
We did all that in about 1 hour of “work” launching missiles off of ships.
No strikes on the actual runway.
made me laugh
I question whether Syria is the one who actually delivered the chemical attack. Lot of sound reasons why they wouldn’t want to.
However, Trump was given the intelligence. If they did that, I have very few problems with what he did.
Obama left him with a quagmire in Syria. There is no good solution. But to argue that the missiles were a waste of time and useless is simply ignorant.
Does ISIS fly Syrian Jets? Were they identified over the sarin bomb sight at the time of the event? Were they seen then bombing the hospital the gas victims were taken to?
If what is being reported is backed up by facts they should have been nuked! Freaking savages.
Were any of the ‘targets’ actually worth as much as the $1.5 million cruise missiles used to attack them?
No.
A runway is just a concrete stip. There are special cratering munitions for that.
You bomb the hangars, machine sheds, POL and ammo dumps.
If you'd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

No but they did have this terrorist doctor

The Noob you’re arguing with (Emergencyawesome) signed up TWO days before the election and does nothing but bash President Trump.
Sleeper Troll. Just sayin’.
I wouldn't go that far, but it definitely tells me "the deep state" has a degree of influence on our new President that I thought he was immune to....
Concrete is about $120 a cubic yard. Dirt, of course, is “dirt cheap”.
Care to guess what a fighter jet or a radar unit costs? If you are Syria and have lots of spares sitting on the lot?
/s
BTW, you can land fighter jets on a highway.
