Microsoft is planning to start pushing out the free Windows 10 Creators Update on April 11. As is often the case, this will be a gradual rollout, meaning not everyone will get the update on day one. Microsoft will slowly ramp up the release — but starting today, you can get the latest build of Windows 10 without waiting.
You can use the Windows 10 Update Assistant to avoid having to convince Windows Update to serve the Creators Update to you. On the Windows 10 computer you want to update, head to microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 and click the blue “Update now” button. This will download the Windows 10 Update Assistant (about 6MB).

What does the update do for us?
I was told that after you update, you get messages that your hardware isn’t good enough to run it....along with stuff that you have to turn off to keep MS from following you and monitoring your surfing and locations. I went back to Win 7, so I’m not up on the new stuff. I would go back to XP if I could get it to work on new websites. If I could only learn Linux! I’ve tried it 15 times and can’t even get an update on a browser. I’ve been computing since ‘84 and a 286 with DOS 3.1 but Linux just kills me. I may try Linux with WINE to see If I can operate at the level I want to. If someone wanted to get rich,....They would take Linux and make it operate like Windows with .exe files, .com files, ect. If a window pops up saying to upgrade my browser, you just press “yes” and everything goes automatic. Instead you download a tar ball and then you have to know where all the files go in different locations. Ridiculous!
You shouldn't need to run WINE if you have a Windows 7 license -- run Win7 as a VM under one of the free Linux-based virtual machine packages, such as VirtualBox or VMware Player. Then you have the best of both.
True, running straight Windows .exe files on a Linux system is the Holy Grail for some users. Don't hold your breath on that one. Use a VM.
Looks like it's heavy on the 3D/virtual reality content creation (hence the name). I see a couple of apps and an expansion of the 3D Builder thing that came with Win10. Some support for VR headsets from multiple vendors. That's about all I know at the moment - haven't downloaded it yet.
A lot of things. Here's an FR search for ping list threads about Creators Update
Microsoft is betting on the younger generation providing its future income -- the mature business desktop is not a growth market any more.
When 7 doesn’t work anymore I see an Apple in my future. We tried 10 and gave up even trying to work it.
There should be a law for us old people that still remember party line phones and 8 tracks to make puters simple not more confusing.
Think of it as crowd-sourcing future content. By sheer coincidence the content created will be XBox compatible. Whaddaya know?
Amazing coincidence, truly.
is this just an update for those that have windows 10 now?
Or is this also update for thsoe who have windows 7 and didn’t get in on the windows 10 upgrade?
Is there an .ISO full install? Or is it just an upgrade for windows?
But IMO, if you like Win7, switching to MacOS will be much easier than dealing with Win8 or Win10, or Linux.
The update is free for Win10 users. Win10 itself now costs you real money.
So I think you have to purchase Win10, upgrade your Win7 or Win8.1 system to Win10 as purchased, and THEN do the Creators Update.
To the best of my understanding, that is....
So are they forcing this bloated crapware on everyone?
I spent 3 hours trying to get a Mint 18.1 on USB drive to dual boot on Windows XP drive without overwrighting files and I gave up. Nothing was working and it was a huge waste of my time.
No, you can avoid it by running Win7, or MacOS, or Linux...
But if you run Win10, updates are all mandatory.
Oh great. I hope it doesn't break anything. :-(
Dang- won’t be gettign it then- was hoping to run it in VM- just to test it-

Then don’t get a Mac! I’ve been computing since DOS with floppies and an 8088 CPU. I was a DOS mechanic an am a certified UNIX admin. I was pissed at Windows so got a Mac. NOTHING is intuitive, EVERYTHING is different, NOTHING is easy. I stuck with it for 7 months and went and bought a new Windows box.
If you learned on a Mac, I’m sure it’s different, but it’s not great for this old PC operator.
