The most ambitious reissue yet of an individual album from the Beatles catalog is coming May 26 with an expanded and newly remixed edition of the Fab Fours 1967 pop masterpiece, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Consistently ranked by critics and fans among the most influential rock albums of all time, Sgt. Pepper is being reissued in multiple formats and editions, including new stereo and surround-sound audio mixes along with nearly three dozen previously unreleased recordings from the same sessions.

Will they replace some of the dreck on side 2 with something listenable?
Now everyone thinks it’s normal to sit at home and watch a two hour movie, but hardly anyone will sit and listen to a 40 minute album. Folks still listen to music, but it seems to be mostly listening while doing something else, working, exercising, driving, cleaning, whatever. Which is better than nothing I guess, I do it too sometimes.
The vinyl craze actually gives me hope, at least they care enough to actually mess around with it instead of putting in ear buds or whatever.
Freegards
After The Doors, Surrealistic Pillow, Disraeli Gears, Are You Experienced, Axis Bold As Love, John Wesley Harding, Days of Future Past and a handful of others, yeah. And I like The Who.
It’s more about how the album influenced others at the time. But I tend to agree that it hasn’t aged nearly as well as most of the Beatles’ catalog.
“Despite its influence, I personally think this album is overrated. Other than A Day In The Life and Good Morning, Good Morning, I dont care for the songs on it.”
Too much McCartney on Pepper.
I much prefer Revolver, Rubber Soul and the White Album.
I like every tune on the album except “She’s Leaving Home,” which really sucks.
Brian Wilson. Pet Sounds. A much better record
Huge album for my sixth grade year
Doesn’t age well as the Stones
Very little Beatles does
What stands out most from all those Beatles records is but particularly Pepper and Abbey is the clarity and arrangements of George Martin and Geoff Emmerick
“Her deoderant let her down, she should have used Odorono”
The best sound quality versions are the 24-bit remasters....even better than the 16-bit CDRs I have that were burned from the original master tapes. Thankfully, noise reduction technology in the remasters was limited to less than 5% of the entire catalog.
I highly doubt if this 50th anniversary version was taken from the above remasters.
As an aside, I remember when Pepper was released, the mono version was $2.89 and the stereo version was $3.89.
Agreed.
The Doors
"What's for tea? Heinz Baked Beans."
Correction...
I highly doubt if this 50th anniversary version was taken from “a different remastered version” from the above remasters.
Oh, thank goodness. It's such a hard album to otherwise find or access we definitely need yet another format/release.
More Music More Music More MUSIC!
50 years later “When I’m 64” is appropriate. I think the “Reprise, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band” is a great song. Agreed that “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver” are better recordings and “Pet Sounds” by the Beach Boys is in that group.
Yeah, Revolver was probably the best thing they ever did. Just superb and like nothing else at the time. My mom bought it for me when I was in the 2nd grade. I wore the grooves off of it then and today, after all those years (I’m 57 now) it still sounds great.
I’m partial to the White Album, as well.
Sgt. Pepper was the perfect album for the time, but doesn’t really hold up as well as those two.
“why not release them in DVD-Audio and/or SACD????”
It was some time ago for about $175. Now it’s a bit more:
The Beatles [USB] Limited Edition, Box set:
Almost $600.
