My question is this. How in the heck didn’t anyone report the smoke earlier? If it’s PVC piping it doesn’t just erupt in one quick event. What triggered this immediate blaze? There would have been firefighters on scene far earlier than when it was fully engulfed don’t you think? What are your thoughts.

Here are what look like police on the scene when the fire started. Lots of spools of plastic conduit stored there, probably for some nearby construction. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C8M-UN2XcAIizJC.jpg

My wife had WSB on the air when our daughter called on the phone. We were both in the Kitchen when I heard the WSB news crew talking about the blaze.

When I went in there to look at what was going on, I could tell it was catastrophic. I told my wife the road would cave in. Then at one point, I saw the concrete edge of the road explode and spread into the other roadway. A few minutes later the whole section collapsed.

The WSB News Chopper 2 shot zoomed out to show the MARTA maintenance yard right next to the fire and my next thought was that it may have had something to do with the immediate cause. But, in such close proximity to the Highway, It could have been a cigarette that started a blaze in trash that had collected out of sight, which then ignited the PVC pipe or fiber optic interduct that was stored there.
