Lights will flick off throughout the Twin Cities on Saturday night as civic leaders join a global movement to conserve energy.
During Earth Hour, iconic monuments such as Paris Eiffel Tower, Londons House of Parliament and New Yorks Empire State Building will go dark when the clock strikes 8:30 p.m. local times. Minnesotas State Capitol, along with dozens of other businesses and local institutions plan, to participate by shutting off all nonessential lighting for that hour.
For the event, billed as the worlds largest voluntary action for the environment, the cities of Minneapolis, St. Paul and Eden Prairie are encouraging residents to join the effort.

Mary would exempt herself and turn on even more stuff. Then get a pass.
Dayton isn’t running again. Thank goodness.
This is utter madness not to mention childish.

"The U.S.S. Enterprise is investigating Beta III, where the U.S.S. Archon disappeared over 100 years before.
When the landing party exhibits strange behavior, Kirk sends another party down to investigate. They find the culture on Beta III is quiescent, with no creative tendencies. The entire culture is controlled by a group of 'lawgivers' known as "The Body" which is, in turn, controlled by the omniscient Landru. The inhabitants change from normal, peaceful people to a violent mob at the coming of the Red Hour. This 'Festival' is the society's only outlet for the tyrannical hold that Landru has over them at all other times."
Thanks for the heads up. I live on the edge of the Twin Cities and EVERY LIGHT in the house is going on shortly - just because.
Our family has land in McGregor.. I am not that far north. I am in the Milaca area.
Frontier provides my internet..
it works mos
LOL!
I was told it took more energy to start say a light bulb than it takes to run it for an hour. Turning all that electricity on no matter what it is running will consume more energy than was saved.
Lol!
THANK YOU!
I'm sure you are correct.
Just like how turning on your car's engine takes up more gas than turning the engine off and restarting, supposedly "saving fuel" while sitting at a railroad crossing, or in a drive-thru window.
“...civic leaders join a global movement to conserve energy.”
SFB is obviously a “common global phenomenon” of those “civic leaders”!
Yep. I’ll turn lights “ON”. It’s too cold here for the A/C,
but I sure won’t turn off either tv nor any lights. It’s
silly. We use very little electricity. Heat with
wood. Don’t even use a hairdryer. Very little cooking.
Composted for 30 years. Light bill is real low.
Too much trouble to hang Christmas lights for what little
attention they will get. Just turn on all the lights
instead.
Thanks for the heads up. 45 minutes until every light gets turned on.
I made two big casserole dishes full of fried chicken to celebrate. Nah, I just really like fried chicken so it’s for dinner with mashed potatoes and corn.
I am always thankful for the notice that it’s time to do my annual one hour electrical stress test. Saves me the effort to remember!
I'll just make it up by leaving all my house light on overnight.
Every little bit counts!
