Freedom Caucus drives dagger into heart of young Trump Presidency
FOXNEWS Opinion Section: Elizabeth Peek ^ | March 24, 2017 | Elizabeth Peek

It is hard to overestimate the damage the Freedom Caucus has done to the fledgling presidency of Donald Trump, and to the country. By blocking the American Health Care Act of 2017, the conservative group has guaranteed that Americans will struggle forward under the burden of Obamacare. In the next few months insurers will announce their premium hikes for the coming year; chances are, given the continuing withdrawal of major companies from the marketplaces and the ongoing failure of the bill to attract enough young and healthy participants, the new rates will not be pretty. Last year premiums went up 25%; it’s likely the increases will be higher this year.

Republicans will own those higher rates. Their failure to repeal the financial underpinnings of Obamacare and start replacing that failing program with an approach that encourages competition and that embodies numerous other common sense reforms will mean that families hit by ever-higher costs will blame the GOP. Voters elected Donald Trump and a GOP Congress to get this job done – the number one promise of every Republican campaign since 2010...

I will do everything I can to try and help Trump, and get rid of the back stabbers and in particular the "Freedom" Caucus and their allies the Democratic Party.

WOW, do you have it ALL wrong, or what?! The Freedom Caucus just saved us from 0bamacare-Forever! I would suggest that you re-direct your anger where it belongs .. at Paul RINO and his merry band of big-government thugs who for the last four years were 0bama's B.F.F!

The right thing happened yesterday.

And Paul Ryan has to go.

That is all.

AHCA failed because it was poorly conceived and handled. I agree with the Freedom Caucus not to accept any more bills that we “must pass to find out whats in them”. That has looming disaster written all over it.

And the late behind closed doors negotiations...this was handled no differently than the Dems did in pushing OCare, this I have dubbed the speaker as Paulosi Ryan.

It looks like the Freedom Caucus are nevertump - they were promised campaign funding by the nevertrump Kochs if they voted no. Read the comments linked on post 13.

This article is pure, unadulterated, horse bung.

Paul and the Freedom Caucus are heroes on this situation—passing Obamacare 2.0 would have been the death of both conservatism in Trump’s presidency and Trump’s presidency.

A good, actual Obamacare repeal bill can still be passed—ideally in concert with the tax cuts they are trying to get done in August.

I’m willing to allow that Trump has said he’d fix the VA. But I think he has to get that legislation passed, and EO’s in place, B4 pushing more people into the VA.

The votes aren’t there to do it.

Not true about mental health coverage. I’ve not yet seen a policy that didn’t cover mental health services.

Complete BS? Tell that to the victim of a violent crime or other trauma being treated for PTSD.

Oh relax.

Pulling the bill only underscored Ryan’s weak kneed approach to the speakership. It did not hurt ztrump at all. Fox News long ago joined the anti ztrump folks. Expect nothing from them in the way of objective analysis.

IF this unseated Ryan I consider it a twofer. The bill was horrific and should never have been introduced

You need to chill ax a bit.

People forget what one of DJT’s most powerful weapons Kellyanne, who is a lifelong pollster. She can tell the boss exectly what is or isn’t playing in Peoria with all the People, pub AND dem, in real-time.

When DJT feels he has fully captured the pulse of voters he needs to turn out certain congressrats by getting up good primary challengers NOW. He intends that the People be represented in this fight, and when they are, they will vote as he asks in order to get even *more* representation.

Republicans are responsible for higher premiums from disastrous legislation no Republican voted for?

The management amendment did that without fixing the system. Why veterans only? Why not other subsidy takers, something inherently evil about that. And trump was 100 percent behind it. Trust no one. Especially those who would reward illegals and kill veterans with substandard care... by force!
If the Va is so great maybe trump n congress should send their families rather even. Next up, amnesty.

Oh, good grief. This hyperventilating is playing right into the Dems hands.

Trump, actually, has the right take: Shake it off and get back to work.

If, justified or not, over 75% of the people were against this bill, how is passing it politically wise?

It is a dagger in the Trumps back not the heart.

Planned Parenthood thanks the freedom caucus for the reprieve.

But Trump has a strong back and he will recover, and then they will all vie for credit.

I disagree!
The average voter is no where near the average political views of this forum. The average voter will not see what’s presented to him on TV. The upcoming collapse of Zerocare will be morphed into Trump’s fault then it will be morphed into “Trump Care”.

Also I think we will end up with some sort of government run system. It will have all the ills, costs & inefficiencies of all socialized systems. The blue collar voter that put Trump over the top expect “something” and its not libertarian free market! You try to make Heritage Foundation Free Market arguments for “free market oriented” healthcare, they will look at you like you are from Mars! I know I have tried!
