Freedom Caucus drives dagger into heart of young Trump Presidency
FOXNEWS Opinion Section: Elizabeth Peek ^ | March 24, 2017 | Elizabeth Peek

It is hard to overestimate the damage the Freedom Caucus has done to the fledgling presidency of Donald Trump, and to the country. By blocking the American Health Care Act of 2017, the conservative group has guaranteed that Americans will struggle forward under the burden of Obamacare. In the next few months insurers will announce their premium hikes for the coming year; chances are, given the continuing withdrawal of major companies from the marketplaces and the ongoing failure of the bill to attract enough young and healthy participants, the new rates will not be pretty. Last year premiums went up 25%; it’s likely the increases will be higher this year.

Republicans will own those higher rates. Their failure to repeal the financial underpinnings of Obamacare and start replacing that failing program with an approach that encourages competition and that embodies numerous other common sense reforms will mean that families hit by ever-higher costs will blame the GOP. Voters elected Donald Trump and a GOP Congress to get this job done – the number one promise of every Republican campaign since 2010...

RINOcare did NOTHING to address the causes of premium hikes.

Sorry, Ryancare was a crap sandwich that contained no repeal, kept in place a good portion of ACA, and put Republican ownership on America’s healthcare!

Sorry, but this is the proverbial lipstick on a pig!

I cannot believe we’re now defending Ryan and socialized Medicine lite! WTF!

President Trump is not a conservative Republican any more than I am a Wall Street money manager. It was the conservatives in the House that needed to step up and create a bill that the President would support and had a conservative bill been presented he might just have gotten behind it. But, the number of real conservative in the House dwindles with everry cycle.

Speaker Ryan is neither a conservative nor a manager despite the kind words that the President had for him after the bill was pulled. The President could have called Ryan out but he knew that this ‘disaster’ was of Ryan’s making and Trump wasn’t going to further embarrass Ryan by saying so.

A conservative bill WAS NOT presented but he needed to get behind something and he chose wrongly to support the Ryan created ACA lite.

Is it possible that a headline is a lunatic?

Agreed. Ryno care was just a worse tweak of Obamacare. Its not Trump’s fault that in 8 years the GOP failed to figure out a fix for the healthcare system. Its not rocket science.

I am not defending him but I understand why he did what he did. Those who believe that it is politically possible to repeal Obamacare, however, in the current political environment (needing 60 votes in the Senate for a repeal) are living in an alternate universe. Obamacare is here to stay for at least two more years.

The headline writer I think you mean? Perhaps Elizabeth Peek is off her meds or studied at the Barack H. Obama School of Stompy Footery. Unhinged is the word that comes to mind.

The Freedom Caucus took down Ryan’s bill.

Fine, and not hard to do. They didn’t even break a sweat.

Where was their competing bill?

What is their plan?

I can throw an intentional walk as well as any major league pitcher.

Big deal. That doesn’t make me a major league pitcher.

So posting videos of Trump’s own comments is now considered #NeverTrump. Funny thing that.

Actually, the GOP did send to Obama a repeal of Obamacare. My question is, why can’t they send the same to President Trump.

Get rid of Ryan.

Why didn't Ryan put forth the 2015 Repeal and Replace bill that everyone agreed with?

Why, because Ryan put himself and the lobbyists ahead of the country/Trump.

Why do these drama queens act like the world has ended? They didn’t get a consensus in congress on a bill. They can, you know, write a different one and try again.

Yes we should all be asking why they didn’t dust off the 2015 bill and send it to Trump. But that’s a rhetorical question. We all know the answer is because the GOP never really planned to repeal Ocare.

I agree ShivaFan.

While the ideological purists bathe in self-satisfaction, and trade their grandstanding for money and votes, we just lost the best chance we’ve ever had at a free market health care system.

Ronald Reagan:

“When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn’t like it. “Compromise” was a dirty word to them and they wouldn’t face the fact that we couldn’t get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don’t get it all, some said, don’t take anything.

I’d learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: “I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.”

If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.”

The Free Republic Rino caucus here are hoping somebody else will pay for their healthcare premiums, while they sit in their parents’ den and play video games.

Keep posting.

Exactly BigBob!

Obamacare is alive and will be funded by the RINO’s and RAT’s
voting together.

Those who think it will collapse on its old weight can’t do voting math.
