I don't remember any 10" or 8¼" models...

You lucky bastard. I once had to boot a DEC 8810 running Ultrix off 8" floppies. Ugh.

Wow. Ultrix on floppies. I didn't know that was possible.

Back around 1982 I had a Tektronix 8550 MSD (microprocessor dev system) that consisted of two units: an 8301 with the uP emulators/debugger electronics, and an 8501 dual-floppy storage box. The latter was based on a DEC LSI-11/23 (a small PDP-11 on a board). Usually you booted it to the MDS software, but the Tek FAE bootlegged me a copy of DEC RT/11 for the LSI/11-23. That was my first experience with DEC stuff since the PDP-8E that launched me into small computers in 1974...

Anyway, the RT diskette booted real RT-11 with high-falutin programs like PIP (remember PIP?).

But he also scammed a copy of ADVEN -- Colossal Cave Adventure ("Adventure"), all text based of course... "YOU ARE STANDING AT THE END OF A ROAD BEFORE A SMALL BRICK BUILDING..."

Ah, those were the days... :-)

D-uh... I forgot the point of that digression -- those LSI-11/23 RT-11 floppies were all 8", dual-sided, double density. A big deal in those days...

And I can't type -- it's "MDS", not "MSD".

I think all but 2 of the 10” disks were in my boss’s filing cabinet. He required me to sign my life away to get possession of the 2. I was the only person in the company who knew how to use the computer that they worked on, but I couldn’t pry more than 2 of them out of him.
