Federal agents are not the only ones trying to remove people from the Buffalo area who have entered the country illegally.
If Bill Bing, a carpenters union official, discovers workers at local construction projects suspected of being in the country illegally, the union tips off authorities.
That information has led to some raids and arrests, he said, although the detention last month of 32 individuals suspected of being in the country illegally and working at projects was not his tip.
"We were not directly responsible for the information on those two raids," said Bing, the local representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.
Bing said he is glad to see the enforcement of immigration laws and makes no apologies for when he or other union members tip off federal and state authorities.
The jobs should go to American citizens and that it is not a union-versus-nonunion issue, he said.

Good. More people ought to Out illegals
Yes, we all should, see it as part of our patriotic duty.
Look at some of the first successful raids. One can’t help but suspect that police, workers, and community members are doing what their city governments won’t do. That would be giving ICE the information needed to determine where the invaders are.
I have been suggesting a special tip line for law enforcement officers to notify ICE if their jail is holding an illegal and when that detainee will be released. Perhaps a $500 reward upon deportation as incentive.
This is great. Now if only there were a penalty for contractors who hire illegals. A friend of mine is a contractor who has to compete with others who mostly hire illegals and not only do they pay lower wages they don’t pay worker’s compensation.
Finally, unions doing the right thing for their rank-and-file AMERICAN workers.
Bravo, Mr. Bing.
E-Verify?
There need to be fines against those who employ them.
Affect the contractor’s bottom line and you will nip a lot of this.
Not a union person but these illegals need to go. If it takes an ad hoc coalition, so be it. They are getting the message, apparently. We just need to be sure the point is driven home.
It’s sad but somebody’s gotta be the bad guy. Lefties will always make others feel guilty for their own benefit.
This doesn’t surprise me.
Although many union members that I meet are economically uninformed, I don’t think I’ve met one yet who was not a patriot.
The executive branch needs to accelerate deportation of the 2MM or so criminals. Also, there is a need for a significant military presence on the southern border immediately.
Only deporting the 2 million convicted criminals leaves 28 million illegal aliens here with the opportunity to victimize Americans.
We should not have to wait until they kill Americans before they are removed.
why just coppers?
a $500 reward and a dedicated tip line will rid the USA of this vermin in no time.
Trump changes things, doesn’t he? Now I find myself on the same side of an issue as a union!
Exactly. And use of everify
I said this:
“The executive branch needs to accelerate deportation of the 2MM or so criminals.”
How do you get from that, that we do nothing about the other 28MM? This is just the starting point.
The reality is that many could self-deport once they see the writing on the wall.
There is already an ICE tip line. I am concerned that the bad guys will flood the line with an enormous number of fake tips that would end up wasting resources and time. If ICE knew a tip was coming from law enforcement, they would know it is genuine.
Perhaps on Stinko de Mayo we should have a NATIONAL TURN IN AN ILLEGAL ALIEN DAY.
That’s what I’m hoping for too.
That would require a real restoration of the rule of law and the removal of any illegal alien that becomes known to ICE. Sure it is smart to focus on the hard core criminals first, but also remove the drunk driver illegal aliens before they kill somebody.
The continuation of DACA undermines all of that.
