Poachers strike at EUROPEAN zoo: Rhinoceros is shot dead in France by killers who hack off [tr]

Poachers have broken into a zoo near Paris and shot a rhinoceros dead before stealing his hugely valuable horn, police revealed today.

In the first case of its kind ever in Europe, the four-year-old was found dead in Thoiry, west of the French capital.

The raid happened late on Monday night, and it was not until 9am today that zoo keepers made the horrifying discovery.

The rhino horn should be surgically removed by the zoo, to render him useless to poachers.

Ditto for all elephant tusks.

Places in Africa where the rhino and elephant have a price on thier heads, ( legal hunting,) there are no poaching problems.
