A century-old statue of a Confederate soldier that stands outside a Maryland courthouse will be moved to private property.
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett said in a news release Tuesday that the county will cover the cost to relocate the bronze statue from the courthouse in Rockville to Whites Ferry, a docking site on the Potomac River named for a Confederate general.

Yet another attack on our history.
States own articles of secession say they were fighting over slavery.
This is a dishonest argument. The *UNION* did not fight the civil war over slavery. Citing what some members of secession conventions said does not address the fact that the *UNION* had no slavery related reasons for invading the South.
Why did the Union invade? Had they not invaded, there would have been no war, so the reason there was a war was because the *UNION* invaded.
Union apologists focus on "slavery" because it makes them look like they did something good, but the evidence indicates they had no intentions of destroying slavery when they sent troops into the South.
So for what reason was the war fought from the Union perspective?
The Southern states did not write the marching orders for the Union. Tell us what was the reason Union troops were ordered to march into the South?
Stop focusing on the red herring. There were five Union states that had slavery too. If they were fighting to end slavery, they could have started with Maryland, because their supply lines would have been much shorter.
It was something other than slavery that motivated Lincoln to send armies into the South. What was that reason?
While they are at it, they could assist the Taliban in blowing up Buddha statues.
Nobody cares about the Southern reasons for leaving, the only thing that matters is why the Union sent troops to invade them.
Why did Lincoln send troops to invade?
This is our history. Do the Left want us to forget our history?
Historical Districts do not contain history. The houses and yards and the communities do not look like they did hundred yrs ago. So why call them historical districts. I’m beginning to think it is all a game
When asked by a group of Yankee soldiers why he was fighting, the Rebel replied, “I’m fighting because y’all are down here.” —Shelby Foote
A "right" which the United States protected for "four score and seven years" and which remained legal in the North until 1865.
What sort of hypocrite tries to denounce a conduct that they themselves engage in?
That the *Union* fought the war over slavery is a demonstrable lie, yet it is a lie that comforts the people who did the murdering and destruction, so it has become a popular lie.
You need to grow up and recognize that the *UNION* did not invade the South to destroy slavery. They invaded the South to destroy economic independence from the North.
The North fought the war for money. They fought the war to HANG ON TO ALL THAT MONEY THEY WERE EARNING FROM SOUTHERN SLAVERY.
(3/4ths of the trade income going to New York was created by Southern Slavery.)
The Union fought the war for greed, and then claimed after the fact that they were fighting for some moral good.
No, it was sheer corrupt greed, and they murdered hundreds of thousands of people to satiate their need for power and money.
Look at the money evidence. Stop listening to the propaganda and start counting the dollars going to the North from the South.
Though Beauregard evidently gave the order.
Now that I think of it, Washington DC had legal slavery for about a year after the war started.
Actually thousands of blacks DID fight for the North.
They’ll take my Shelby Foote and Southall Freeman from my cold, dead hands.
When lookouts reported that a fifth warship had been sighted rendezvousing with the Union Naval Task force stationed 10 miles off the coast of Charleston, he ordered the artillery to commence firing at Ft. Sumter.
Had Lincoln not sent that task force of warships, Beauregard would not have thought himself caught between two groups of enemy forces.
Militarily it was exactly the right thing to do. To take cannon fire from two different sides is a virtual guarantee that you will be destroyed. He had to take out the Ft. Cannons before the Naval Task force engaged him, and he did.
What Beauregard didn't know was this is exactly what Lincoln wanted him to do. The Ships were just floating, having been given no orders to engage. Those Ships were sent only to spook the Southern forces into doing something that Lincoln could paint as a provocation.
Lincoln was too smart by half. He thought he could win a war quickly, but he got a horrible bloody conflict that dragged on for years and caused immense suffering all around.
Lincoln had four slave states fighting for the Union. That is why he handled the issue so carefully. The war for the union morphed gradually into a war to end slavery, but it took some time to get there. The apparent "inconsistency," however, is not really an inconsistency. Many observers, including Lincoln, believed that slavery was indeed on the road to extinction by peaceful means. If the Union was preserved, slavery would die anyhow. The pro-slavery radicals in the South believed the same, which is why they wanted a split.
Threw weren’t enough mics coming off the boats and he needed more bodies to throw at the Army of Northern Virginia so the newly emancipated black man would do just fine.
Threw = There
Ping!
All so interesting. I guess we’ll be refighting the Civil War till America is no more.
“Look away, Dixieland.”
