A century-old statue of a Confederate soldier that stands outside a Maryland courthouse will be moved to private property.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett said in a news release Tuesday that the county will cover the cost to relocate the bronze statue from the courthouse in Rockville to White’s Ferry, a docking site on the Potomac River named for a Confederate general. …

Yes, slavery was on its way out. The pro-slavery extremists — the ones who thought slavery was a positive good because it supported a sophisticated leisure class — decided they needed their own country to perpetuate a servile class.

Confederates Speak: Yes, We Fought the Civil War Over Slavery

States own articles of secession say they were fighting over slavery.

As for blacks, perhaps the Southerners should have been left to what they were doing, being a white minority among slaves. That would work really well; then, their white supremacist culture screwed up the north by the fleeing slaves to Chicago and Detroit.

If one throws out Neo-Confederate historical revisionism, it should be answered.

Yeah, and they fought for their freedom.

And erect one of thousands for all of the Native Americans and Blacks who fought for the Union.

It’s the Democrats problem, let them deal with it which is what they are doing in a state like Maryland. Dems started the Klan, Dems were about to be an extreme minority in the South, Northerners saw the folly of this long ago.

Funny Lincoln himself declared the war was not about slavery. Besides the whole slavery thing may be a fairy tail. Since we are rewriting history all is fair game.

If you simply erase history, it’s as if it never happened.

All we know is Bush wanted to keep slaves and his general Trump killed all the Jews to stop Sacagawea from becoming a Massachusetts Senator. Obama descended from the heavens and saved us.

You might say that about the first 7 states to secede. But the four later ones seceded because Lincoln was refusing peace delegations, threatening a call up and an invasion. For those 4 states it was about stopping a federal invasion. Read the Arkansas Session Ordinance it spells it out very clearly.

***We Fought the Civil War Over Slavery***

Yet five SLAVE STATES remained with the UNION and did not secede. When the Civil War ended, several were still SLAVE STATES until the ratification of the 13th Amendment eight months after Lincoln was dead.

>> You might say that about the first 7 states to secede. <<

Fortunately, those who wrote Virginia’s ordinance of secession said explicitly what they had in common with the first 7 states, citing “oppression of the Southern slaveholding States” as part of the justification for its actions:

The people of Virginia, in their ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America, adopted by them in Convention, on the 25th day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eight-eight, having declared that the powers granted them under the said Constitution were derived from the people of the United States, and might be resumed whensoever the same should be perverted to their injury and oppression, and the Federal Government having perverted said powers, not only to the injury of the people of Virginia, but to the oppression of the Southern slaveholding States.

So yep, we have it on record. Your ancestors renounced the United States and abolished the U.S. constitution so they could uphold the "right" to own fellow beings as property and treat them like animals.

You must be so proud of that "heritage".

***And erect one of thousands for all of the Native Americans and Blacks who fought for the Union.***

Most of the Indian tribes in the West joined the South in the rebellion and the Oklahoma tribes were split but mostly Confederate. The Plains Indians also went into rebellion and it was believed Confederate agents were slipping in from Canada keeping the tribes on the warpath for the Southern Cause.

When Chivington attacked the Indians at Sand Creek, he considered them to be “Red Rebels”. Unknown to many people, two Confederate agents were captured in the village.

In Southern New Mexico, the Mescalero tribe went on the warpath against the Union when they heard Texas Cavalry would be coming to their aid.

The Oklahoma tribes lost the Western half of their Indian territories, being forced to cede them to the Union in 1866 because of their Southern alliance. The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes attacked in 1868 by Custer at Washita were not on their designated Reservation lands. That was not given to the Cheyenne and Arapaho till the mid 1870s. The 1873 map shows the Cheyenne and Arapaho lands as being between the Kansas line, the Arkansas and Cimarron rivers.

There are a few Confederate blacks who also died in the war. Not many but they did fight for the South.

Fun fact:
The constitution of the Confederate States of American actually places GREATER restrictions on some "states rights" than those that existed under the U.S. Constitution. For example, states LOSE the power to determine voter eligibility, which they had enjoyed under the U.S. Constitution.

Howvever, the Confederate Constitution DOES addresses the legality of slavery directly and by name -- and declares it an eternal "right" that cannot be abolished (" No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law denying or impairing the right of property in negro slaves shall be passed". ), something the U.S. Constitution NEVER did.

But gosh, it was all about STATES RITES and had nothin' to do with keepin' the darkies in their place.

AN ORDINANCE to dissolve the union now existing between the State of Arkansas and the other States united with her under the compact entitled "The Constitution of the United States of America."

Whereas, in addition to the well-founded causes of complaint set forth by this convention, in resolutions adopted on the 11th of March, A.D. 1861, against the sectional party now in power in Washington City, headed by Abraham Lincoln, he has, in the face of resolutions passed by this convention pledging the State of Arkansas to resist to the last extremity any attempt on the part of such power to coerce any State that had seceded from the old Union, proclaimed to the world that war should be waged against such States until they should be compelled to submit to their rule, and large forces to accomplish this have by this same power been called out, and are now being marshaled to carry out this inhuman design; and to longer submit to such rule, or remain in the old Union of the United States, would be disgraceful and ruinous to the State of Arkansas:
