Meryl Streep is defending herself after Chanel’s designer Karl Lagerfeld claimed that she dropped out of wearing a Chanel dress to this year’s Oscars in favor of a brand that would pay her.
“In reference to Mr. Lagerfeld’s ‘statement,’ there is no ‘controversy’: Karl Lagerfeld, a prominent designer, defamed me, my stylist, and the illustrious designer whose dress I chose to wear, in an important industry publication,” Streep said in a statement to PEOPLE. “That publication printed this defamation, unchecked. Subsequently, the story was picked up globally, and continues, globally, to overwhelm my appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of my record breaking 20th nomination, and to eclipse this honor in the eyes of the media, my colleagues and the audience.
“I do not take this lightly, and Mr. Lagerfeld’s generic ‘statement’ of regret for this ‘controversy’ was not an apology. He lied, they printed the lie, and I am still waiting,” she said.

Earlier this week, Lagerfeld told WWD that Streep eschewed a Chanel dress for Sunday’s award show in favor of a designer who would allegedly pay her.
“I made a sketch, and we started to make the dress,” Lagerfeld told WWD. He claimed that shortly after production started on the gown, Streep’s camp reportedly canceled in favor of a label that offered a pay out. “‘Don’t continue the dress. We found somebody who will pay us,’ ” Lagerfeld claimed the actress’s team told him.

I can’t think it would be enough to risk a fuss about, or even to turn down a dress I actually preferred...but I don’t live on those heights ;-)

What? She is reporting that there is ‘fake’ news! Did the Russians do it. We need an investigation. It is not whether the it is true or not it is the seriousness of the allegations. Stop the Oscars until this is resolved. She is not my actress. She did not win the popular vote. Wait. Sorry wrong issue. I got carried away.

Streep is indecisive and unsure about her clothes AND who actually won best picture.
In The Devil Wears Prada, a movie Streep starred in, she played an executive in the fashion industry. I noticed that she mispronounced the Hermes brand and thought it was ironic at the time because these celebrities are the ones sustaining the high fashion industry.
But she didn’t know how to pronounce it correctly probably because one, she did not prepare for her role thoroughly, and two, like most celebrities, she does not really follow fashion but merely enjoys expensive clothes for free. Most of the paying customers of high fashion are merely trying to impress people by looking like a celebrity.
Speaking of gravity......when does Cheryl Tiegs get hers....huh?

Whos reputation are you talking about? Meryl has always been hideous and untalented, so much so that every time Ive seen her over the years that Ive wondered aloud about who in Hollywood owed her and for what? It has to be someone “important” and something big.
HA!!!! She loses either way. If she is telling the truth, karma just whacked her for lying about Trump. If Lagerfeld is telling the truth, it shows the world just who and what she actually is.
Neither looks good on her.
Streep thinks she is just about the best little toot that ever was. The truth is time moves on and for sure Ms.S missed the boat. Everyone knows that.
