God Rest their soles, everyone of them. They were heroes one and all.
I built this model to commemorate them and in their honr.
I built this, and gave the full description of the Riad as a dedication and commemoration to these heroes.
If you look at stock charts, The Doolittle Raid was the turning point of the stock market! That is the point where stocks bottomed out, and started their upward trend after 1929.
Just shows, that a good old PR stunt can go a long way in public confidence.

The first book I ever checked out of the library when I got my first official card was “30 Seconds Over Tokyo”, I read that when I was seven.
Hard to believe, but so many people today have no idea about the raid, or what it meant.
I built a 1/350 scale model of the USS Gambier Bay and was convinced by the survivors of that heroic ship to donate the model to the MacArthur Museum in Norfolk VA.

One of the muck-ups that probably got several killed was as they trained at Eglin they worked on the carburetors to make them lean to get extended range, so when the aircraft were sent to the Hornet they were ready for the mission. Unfortunately the Navy brought all the aircraft back to spec losing that extended range.

I looked it up. Cole is now 101 years old! It makes one wonder...was/is G-d looking out especially for the Doolittle raiders?
God bless you Jeff. I wear a CV-17 hat my cousin had made to honor the Bunker Hill, the WWII carrier my grandfather served on. Any time I meet a veteran who inquires about it, I give it to them. Least I can do.

I recall watching old film of them taking off. It appeared that some of them almost lifted off in slow motion. They seemed to just float up from the deck.
I guess the combination of the ship’s speed plus the wind was almost enough to get them airborne by itself.
This makes me proud to be AMERICAN!
