If this year's Oscar boycott was anything like this year's NFL "boycott", we can expect it will generate record numbers of people tuning in.

The 2017 Superbowl made billions and and was one of the most watched TV broadcasts of all time, but some conservatives on the internet were still insisting the boycott was "working" and somehow hurt the NFL and Colin Kaepernick. If that's a successful boycott, I'd hate to see what an unsuccessful one looks like. I wonder how many of the people who loudly declared at the start of the season that they "won't be watching" actually DID turn off the boob tube on Superbowl Sunday. Probably the same number of Hollywood celebs who actually left the country after Trump was elected. People always pound their chest and talk a good game, but it means nothing.

As for me, I didn't watch this year's Superbowl OR this year's Academy Awards. Unlike the two teams playing the superbowl, I actually DO have an interest in which films win, so I check out the results the next day, but I don't watch the awards because they are too long and always a bunch of snobby people patting themselves on the back. I watched last year's oscars only to give the middle finger to the Black Lives Matter crowd who were complaining the Oscars were racist against black people.

My objection isn't so much that Hollywood is biased against conservative filmmakers (Mel Gibson did get nominated this year in spite of how many people loathe him), but that Hollywood always gives the top prize to some tear-jerker historical melodrama and snubs genres I like, such as sci-fi and fantasy. I'm ticked that Suicide Squad won Best Makeup for Jared Leto's tattooed Joker and Harley Quinn looking like a heroin addict, instead of Star Trek Beyond which rightfully deserved the prize. And the only "Best Picture" nominee I've seen is the sci-fi film Arrival. It was a great movie but only took home one minor technical award. At least it was nominated in 7 other categories. I highly recommend it.

Have no idea what La-La Land or Moonlight is about. Most of the recent Best Picture winners have been disappointment... I was really looking forward to seeing 2014's Best Picture winner Birdman (casting Michael Keaton as a washed up actor who used to play a superhero was perfect casting) and it turned out to be some tedious artsy-fartsy movie that I could barely sit thru. 12 Years a Slave was also hard to sit through. I finally saw 2008's winner Slumdog Millionaire, which had its moments (the music score was very good) but was too disjointed and dour for me to enjoy. Life of Pi was much better.

There are thousands of movies every year, its interesting to see which ones win the top prize for being "the best", even if we tend to heavily disagree with the decisions, like who gets the Noble Prize each year.

Like I’ve said several times, I canceled my cable nearly a year ago (May, 2016). And I don’t miss it at all. Paying to be insulted and force fed propaganda? Done with that.

I bought an OTA antenna for $8.50 and pick up 40+ stations, many in HD. Even at that, I barely watch anything. But at least I’m not enriching “The Left”, and that includes the various sports leagues.

Movies? I’m down to going once a year. That’s dropping to zero.

Shop at Amazon? Nope.

Use Google products? For a search engine, I use it. I know there are alternatives and I will start using them.

People need to actually “stave the beast”. It needs to be Modus Operandi #1. And if enough people do it, “they” will notice.

I would never boycott something I like (eg football). Why punish myself?
