Lagerfeld: Meryl Streep Passed On Oscar Dress When Chanel Refused to Pay

What might Meryl Streep wear to the Oscars? Cross Chanel off the list.

It seems that Streep was quite taken with an embroidered gray silk gown from Karl Lagerfeld’s most recent couture collection for the house. The dress was ordered, with Streep requesting an adjustment to the design — a higher neckline. Done. Such personalization is what couture is all about, along with exquisite execution, and, in the case of Chanel, Lagerfeld’s design brilliance. What more could the world’s greatest living actress want for Hollywood’s biggest night?

Turns out, she wants a paycheck. With work on the dress well underway in Chanel’s atelier, word came from Streep’s camp to cease and desist. “I made a sketch, and we started to make the dress,” Lagerfeld told WWD. Days later, a phone call came in from a member of Streep’s camp. “’Don’t continue the dress. We found somebody who will pay us,’” Lagerfeld quoted the messenger.

I bodyguarded Eva Longoria and her NBA husband as they were rolling out their home & garden line in San Antonio. I was amazed how tiny both of them were.

I just read the first four words in the headline, only to be bitterly disappointed by reading the rest of it.

“Meryl Streep Passed On...”

For a short time I worked at Maggiano’s at the Grove in Los Angeles. So one night Jay Leno get’s seated in my section. He’s having dinner with his wife. After they have desert my manager comes up to me and and asked me how much Leno’s tab was, I told him about $100.00 with drinks. He say’s I’m gonna help you make some extra money tonight, I’m gonna comp his entire tab. Didn’t Leno leave me a $20.00 tip. Here’s a guy who was making over $25 million a year, has his entire meal and drinks were comped and leaves a $20.00 tip. The manager gave me a $50.00 gift card to help ease the pain.

Yes some people are way different looking in real life. Many celebs are not all that attractive, but they ‘wear it well’ and are photogenic with the right makeup. Talent scouts are as much about knowing what bone structure looks good on camera and who can be molded to a marketable look, as whether someone has any actual talent.

The studio system used to do most of that.

wow that’s shameful. I always try and leave a really good tip because I waited tables for years in all kinds of places. 2 best tips for least amount of work - from Cleavon Little who gave me $20 for bringing him a ginger ale, and a mafioso named Lefty who tipped me $20 for a cup of espresso. LOL! worst tip by a celeb other than Ms Flack- Judd Hirsch, who left a couple dollars and dumped his pocket change (including Canadian money) after a lunch that was probably in the $50 range (late 1970’s).

My first wife’s boss took us, he and his wife and two other couples to the fanciest and most expensive restaurant in Iowa and dropped $8,000 including wine. He’s a consistent 25% tipper.

I learned how to tip from a female bartender I was dating when I was in a musician in a band. It seemed like every bar or restaurant we went into on Rush Street all the bartenders knew her and would comp us and when we went out to eat most of the dinners were comped as well. The first time we had everything comped I told her this is crazy, I was a little embarrassed, and asked her how much should we leave. She said we always leave 25% and if it’s comped and the check was $100,00, you leave $100.00. That way it comes out like we;re just not tipping, but we did leave a tip a big one. that’s why they comp a lot of our drinks and meals. So the bartenders and servers can make some money.

They are worth around $100,000 this year according the article linked below AND the celebrities have to pay tax on anything over $600
http://www.wcvb.com/article/2017-oscars-swag-bags-worth-dollar100000-come-with-hefty-tax/8970777

The IRS came after the Academy in 2006 when the IRS found out nobody was paying tax on these expensive gifts. See link below about that.

Back before I met my wife she was working the backstage security entrance at a concert and Madonna walked up and demanded to be let in. She wasn’t on the list and got denied access. She pulled the “do you know who I am?” routine and my wife said “Yes, Madonna, and you’re still not getting backstage.”

...........well, off the screen, I agree with all of you guys and gals. But, on screen, she definitely is the best actress that ever lived. I think she was particularly great in Out of Africa.

I decided years ago that certain people in the entertainment business I would just have to block out of mind in terms of their politics. Babs and Meryl are two of those people.

Strangely, male actors I don’t like, like Redford, I would not go see if you paid me.

#25 It has been noticed before... : )
Doris Day: Hooray for Hollywood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0dWa2nRA-U

Hooray for Hollywood
That screwy, ballyhooey Hollywood
Where any office boy or young mechanic
Can be a panic, with just a goodlooking pan
Where any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan

Hooray for Hollywood
Where you’re terrific, if you’re even good
Where anyone at all from TV’s Lassie
To Monroe’s chassis is equally understood
Go out and try your luck, you might be Donald Duck
Hooray for Hollywood

Hooray for Hollywood
That phoney, super-Coney Hollywood
They come from Chillicothes and Paducahs
With their bazookas to get their names up in lights
All armed with photos from local rotos
With their hair in ribbons and legs in tights

Hooray for Hollywood
You may be homely in your neighborhood
But if you think that you can an actor
See Mr. Factor, he’d make a monkey look good
With a half an hour, you’ll look like Tyrone Power
Hooray for Hollywood

LOL, I would have loved to been there to see that. Madonna is known for her extreme arrogance.

Why, I don’t know. She’s never been “beautiful” and is an average singer, at best. Of course, everyone knows how she got a record deal....
