FULL TITLE: 'Real men provide. Real women appreciate it': North Carolina residents plan protest over 'sexist' billboard paid for by a mystery organization

Women are planning this weekend to protest a North Carolina billboard with a message they say is a slam on gender equality, according to media reports.

A billboard on a highway between Winston-Salem and Greensboro reads, 'Real men provide. Real women appreciate it.' It's on Business 40, a heavily traveled commuter stretch of an offshoot of Interstate 40 that runs between the two cities.

Winston-Salem boutique owner Molly Grace said that she sees the sign's message as an attempt to silence women who want to be seen as equals to men.

“The problem is that you then have to hire someone to take care of the house and someone to cook.”

You have GOT to be kidding.

Most the 2 income families that I know do the cooking and cleaning etc themselves.

Real men protect their women. Not like the wimps in Germany, Sweden, and Italy.

Real men provide. Real women appreciate it

It doesn't say real men provide everything.

““What’s that supposed to mean ? “ Okay I’ve said what I wanted to say...now Laz you can start with the “sammach” jokes.

As God as my witness, I don’t know whether to be honored or scared $hitless that we were response tagged together. “

You had to ask!! I wanted to state my opinion/prediction on that billboard before the “sammach” jokes began. Knew once the guys chimed it..it’s all over

oh and Laz...if you eat any thing made by that woman you might need an Alka-Seltzer to follow.

It doesn't say real men provide everything.

That is, however, what is expected. The current thinking is that men should assume the same responsibilities that they did by the reckoning of "traditional gender roles" but not have the same benefits to go with it.

In a different time, when more jobs were physical and you really needed men doing them, the traditional roles made more economic and social sense. That time is behind us.

The problem is that you then have to hire someone to take care of the house and someone to cook.

Unless you are planing to move into a motel and order pizza every night.

Unless you are talking someone with a $50,000 a year job in a low COLA area it is actually cheaper and less stressful to have one person stay at home to take care of all the things that are required for civilized life.

Split the housework 50/50. This is also part of pulling one's own weight.

I think most men would be happy to have the same deal our grandfathers had: Which is work hard, come home to a woman who was supportive and appreciative of you, the husband.

I agree, but with caveats. 1) Our granddads could make good enough money to take care of everything. Most working men now can't. That's not a function of laziness, that's an economic reality. 2) The types of jobs our economy creates are such that there are plenty of positions suitable for women to work outside the home. In the time our grand dads, jobs were more physical and men were needed for them.

In the time of our grandfathers, men worked hard. Women did too, but at home.

Now, we are teaching our young women to expect to be taken care of, and frankly, house work isn't what it once was. My grandma grew up washing clothes in a large bucket and washing dishes in a sink with water carried in buckets from a creek. We don't wash clothes anymore. We put them in a machine and the machine does the work for us. Same with dishes.

The social and economic conditions that promoted traditional gender roles don't exist, and I'm not aware of any rule written by God stating that women had to be at home at all times. The world has changed. We should change with it.

For most couples, this means both having a job outside the home, especially if they *ever* want to be able to afford any children at all. And frankly, given the way we've raised multiple generations of free loaders, showing children that hard work is a good thing is vitally important.

Females need to quit getting their tricots in a bind. The U.S. was a far better place to live and ran along with few problems when the men provided, the women appreciated it and the children appreciated and honored their parents.

While I see your point and do agree if the couple
Doesn’t have children, if they have children and both have high powered
Jobs, the kids are not being raised with your presence and they may be thoroughly neglected. Easy for
Kids to be abused when parents aren’t around. I know
This from
Personal experience.

I totally agree with you again.

Except that daycare is an unacceptable
Substitute for parents. It
Might work if there are some
Amazing grandparents living with the couple because they might love
The kid as
Much as the parents do. Kids need full on loving supervision from 0 to 18.
