MILO: Dear Half Of America, We At Sears F*****g Hate You!

Hi folks! Eddie Lampert, CEO of Sears Holdings here! I’ve been reliably informed that everyone who’s anyone in conservative America reads MILO, and he has been gracious enough to lend me his column today to send you a simple message — Sears and our other failing brand K-Mart f'ing hate you!

We’re not the first company to think of this innovative customer relations strategy. Nordstrom took the bold first leap into openly shitting on their own shoppers by dumping Ivanka Trump’s clothing line — but be realistic conservatives, that particularly racist cissexist misogynistic antisemitic transphobic fatphobic treephobic icecreamphobic autoerotasphyxiaphobic hate-mongering member of the first family had it coming. Never mind that she is a woman married to a Jewish man, just trust my virtue-signalling!

It makes sense for Sears and K-Mart to dump the Trump Home Collection. In fact, I’m struggling to figure out why we didn’t do it sooner. I guess we can’t be accused of being the rocket scientists of the retail world. Just think of the advantages this presents. We’re closing 150 stores by April. If we didn’t piss off half of America with a move against the democratically elected commander in chief and his family, imagine how crowded our remaining stores could be!

I’ve got to admit something. My family’s wholesale plumbing supply store sold hot water heaters so I knew what parts I needed and learned from my father and our plumber friends how to do it.

I used a mirror (the heater was way back in a corner), a blowtorch, and some good solder. Took me about 15 minutes because I had to hold the mirror in one hand, heat the solder and then drag it around the fittings threads to make a solid bead.

I might even have had a small flashlight in my mouth.

As Blutarsky would say, “Nine years of college didn’t go to waste”.

Our local Kmart never carried Ivanka’s line of clothing. I don’t know about Sears. But this story seems to be much ado about nothing. If you search “Trump” on both sears.com and kmart.com, Ivanka and Trump products do pop up in the results. I just tried it myself.

With all that said, maybe both stores should offer to carry Ivanka’s line of clothing, from now on, seeing as how profitable it could be.

Because Water heaters have to be installed as per building code. People are stupid. Families would be electrocuted or smothered depending upon whether it was electric or gas heater.

Blow torch? Heck - mine was all just fittings and stuff. Even bought a new line to connect to the gas valve just “because”.

My favorite memory of Sears was trying to convince them that their crappy Die Hard battery died easily. My first attempt only elicited the predictable “it’s your alternator” response. The second time I went back with just the battery and they tested it and admitted that it was no good.

While I was there, I saw a “mechanic” raising a large hammer over his head and repeatedly pounding on something under the hood of a customer’s car. I also watched a car on a lift as they were bringing it down. The front bumper caught an open drawer on a large roll around tool box. It fell over and dumped its contents on the hood of the car.

Clever writing and some good points, but human nature is such that the presence of something they don’t like will irritate people more than the absence of something they do. Very few people will walk into Sears and say “Damn, I was going to buy a washing machine but I don’t see any Trump merchandise, I’m leaving”. On the other hand, very few people walk into Sears anymore anyway.

There was a time, back in the days where everything was cash or checks, that every check in my checkbook was to a K-mart company. I was building our house (board-by-board), and spent most of my spare time at that. My checks were to Home Quarters (K-mart equivalent to Home Depot), Pace (the Kmart shopping club), or Office Square. Every (decent) tool in my garage was a Craftsman. (My wife bought the groceries.)

Now, I haven't bought a single thing from a K-mart entity for at least a couple of decades. The decline started when every Craftsman tool I owned with an electrical cord on it failed, and when I broke two Craftsman breaker bars in one morning, without using an extension on them. I obviously can't stop buying anything more from them.

That sounds like the Sears auto repair where I got that battery. Total amateurs.

I was so angry with Sears. They tout their 5 year warranty, but if you have a problem, they deny there is anything wrong with it.

I even went to my Chevy dealer, and they confirmed the battery was no good. Then I went back to Sears with that info and told them to call the Chevy manager about it, but they still denied me any satisfaction and denied the battery was bad.

I bought a great battery at my dealer, where I go for service for the last 25 years. They said Sears batteries are over-priced. My new battery is about 4 years old and never has failed me.

I even got tires at the dealer the last 2 times we needed tires. They have a price match guarantee, and sure enough, they matched Walmart’s price last year on tires for our Charger. I just don’t trust anyone else but my local dealer to work on my truck or car.

It’s that “Gov’t knows better than you how to keep you safe” mindset that conflicts with individual liberty.

This concept is what Thomas Jefferson specifically addressed when he spoke about the attitude of tyrants who believe they know better than us how we should live our lives. They force their will upon citizens through regulations, fines, penalties and other “deterrents”, “for our own good”.

Yes, these regs, building codes, etc., may indeed be for our own good. However, if citizens assume the risks and choose to exercise their liberty to install something themselves, it is their inherent right to do so.

It would be fine if the installer was the only one in jeopardy for a faulty installation. That’s just not always the case. In not even usually the case.

Civil building codes are okay with me, along with the FDA and Department of Agriculture, Osha .... et al.

Here is an example of why: http://sdinspect.com/health-and-safety/water-heater-danger/

Having codes on seemingly easy things like Hot Water heater installations is low hanging fruit for opposition. It’s easy to convince others it’s stupid, unnecessary and an intrusion.

The problem arises when codes are applied nonsensically or misused as a tool of oppression over ones political enemies.

Everyone has their positions on how much freedom infringement they tolerate ranging from living in a total police state to one of complete anarchy. Debate usually centers around where to draw the line between the two.
