Meet Ardu McDuino: The Bagpipe-Playing Robot

The 3D-printed hands have individual solenoids that allow each finger to cover and uncover the holes on a real bagpipe...

The main limitation of the robot is that it requires a human to blow into the instrument. That’s certainly not ideal if you want to listen to the sweet sounds of Scotland 24/7/365, but XenonJohn says he’s working on a new version that includes an air pump to automatically blow air into the bagpipes.

A severe violation of the first law of robotics.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

“A severe violation of the first law of robotics.”

Please tell me Wil Smith doesn’t play bagpipes.

In my experience, an important attribute of bagpipe players is that they get drunk and stop.

This is a step backward.

The difference between bag pipes and a chainsaw is you can tune a chainsaw.

Just when you thought robots couldn't get any worse.

We're gettin' the band back together!

Q: Why do bagpipers walk back and forth when playing?
A: It's harder to hit a moving target.
