My bride, among her other abilities, is a first rate cook. She received this e-mail from Penzeys Spices:
And the results are in from Fridays Racism Update Email. You may remember this email was us re-sending our previous days email. In it we kindly asked those who chose to cast their vote for an openly racist candidate for the President of the United States to take responsibility for their action. With the re-send we put the UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON right up on top for those needing to use it. We also hoped they would one day come back. The final results are that 0.721% of those on our email list chose to opt-out. 99.27% of you are still here. As I said Tuesday, I love cooks. You are amazing people.
I also want to thank you for the tremendous support from all our customers across the country. The incredibly written emails to me, the support on our Facebook page, the defense of Penzeys in comment sections across the internetall of it has meant so incredibly much to me. After so many of the far-right media world encouraged their supporters to send their anger at me, I have to admit that I really had never been so insulted in all my life, and I have a history of getting out there on the internet. Without your incredible outpouring of support, I am sure the results for me would have been very different. I am forever in your debt. Thank you.
My bride sent an e-mail in response: I deleted both the Thursday and Friday emails from Penzeys Spices. It is none of Penzeyss business who any of its customers choose to vote for, or what the customers positions may be on any of the manifold social issues Penzeys owners seem to be so passionate about. I currently am trying to use up my current stock of spices in the cupboard (both Penzeys and other brands), and therefore have not needed to order from Penzeys in a long time. I would feel happier about ordering from Penzeys in the future, however, if Penzeys would keep it all about the spices and our shared love of cooking, and not insist on pushing the owners political and social views upon the customers.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Catherine A. McClarey
Red Fascists run their businesses like Red Fascists. Bill Penzey, Jr. , the CEO of Penzey Spices, is about to learn a valuable lesson in insulting half the country as a result of a personal snit fit about his preferred candidate losing an election.
They don’t think they are. To them, it’s as though some phantom voters elected Trump but real people didn’t, or at least only a few they can do without.
The Hollyweird crowd doesn’t get this either. Alienating half your fan base isn’t a good idea.
I don’t know their politics, but I’ve had good luck with Monterey Bay Spice Company.
Sage advice!
My youngest son and family live in Boise and he loves to cook. He’s growing into a self-taught gourmet. I’m going to let him know about Starlight. Thanks for the tip.
I looked at a bunch of different places and they looked to be the one with the greatest amount of choice.
Glad it helped :)
of course, Diana!

I am an herbalist. I will check out The Spice House.
Because that is THE defining characteristic of a leftist: collectivism, which means all must be subsumed by the whole; the individual is nothing, the collective is everything.
I mean it - so much so that it is the thesis for the science fiction novel series I am writing.
I am a pretty plain & simple cook. Put a frozen prl roast into the crockpot-—add water—sprinkle garlic salt, Lawry’s salt & dry onions on the top of the frozen meat. Set it to low & walk away from it. 8-9 hours later, it pulls apart.
Did one yesterday & had neighbor come over & get 2 big slabs for his dinner & a couple of lunches at work. He loves it. He helps me with mechanical things on my 2 old vehicles, so I owe it to him.
I have used McCormick spices, and other everyday brands, along with Kroger house brands for all of my life—am now 77. I never even thought about buying special spices from a high end shop, even when I actually made money & could afford to do so.
However, I will be sure to never purchase from these jerks, and I will pass on that sentiment to anyone I know.
This isn’t even just pissing of possible customers-—it is shooting yourself in the foot. I say that as a bookkeeper who has done that kind of work for over 59 years.
You got that right.
I’m glad I’ve never bought anything from them. I found them to be exorbitantly expensive.
Typical liberals. They’re happy to take advantage of the capitalist system and to make money off of people that they overcharge. But they pretend to love socialism /Liberalism/communism it’s all the same thing.

Thank you! Yes, Please Do! :)
I make, ‘Millions of Meatballs’ quite often, and we have a lot of wild game (elk, venison, bear) that we grind, so ANYTHING ‘hamburger-related’ is always, ALWAYS welcome. :)

FReepers are THE BEST! :)
Yes. However, please note that the SISTER of this doorknob is the owner of that shop. (I found that out later, today.)
I HATE to boycott companies from my own state, but the choice is up to you.
The Spice House has a great reputation, and maybe, just MAYBE, they kicked the doorknob to the curb when the second generation took over?
Your call.

I buy my spices from a lot of different places, usually bulk size. I don’t have any of theirs in my cabinets. If a company puts their politics before their business like that, I just unsubscribe. I don’t see why so many companies do this, they piss off most of their customers.

That’s what I’m sayin’! :)
