My bride, among her other abilities, is a first rate cook. She received this e-mail from Penzeys Spices:
And the results are in from Fridays Racism Update Email. You may remember this email was us re-sending our previous days email. In it we kindly asked those who chose to cast their vote for an openly racist candidate for the President of the United States to take responsibility for their action. With the re-send we put the UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON right up on top for those needing to use it. We also hoped they would one day come back. The final results are that 0.721% of those on our email list chose to opt-out. 99.27% of you are still here. As I said Tuesday, I love cooks. You are amazing people.
I also want to thank you for the tremendous support from all our customers across the country. The incredibly written emails to me, the support on our Facebook page, the defense of Penzeys in comment sections across the internetall of it has meant so incredibly much to me. After so many of the far-right media world encouraged their supporters to send their anger at me, I have to admit that I really had never been so insulted in all my life, and I have a history of getting out there on the internet. Without your incredible outpouring of support, I am sure the results for me would have been very different. I am forever in your debt. Thank you.
My bride sent an e-mail in response: I deleted both the Thursday and Friday emails from Penzeys Spices. It is none of Penzeyss business who any of its customers choose to vote for, or what the customers positions may be on any of the manifold social issues Penzeys owners seem to be so passionate about. I currently am trying to use up my current stock of spices in the cupboard (both Penzeys and other brands), and therefore have not needed to order from Penzeys in a long time. I would feel happier about ordering from Penzeys in the future, however, if Penzeys would keep it all about the spices and our shared love of cooking, and not insist on pushing the owners political and social views upon the customers.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Catherine A. McClarey
Red Fascists run their businesses like Red Fascists. Bill Penzey, Jr. , the CEO of Penzey Spices, is about to learn a valuable lesson in insulting half the country as a result of a personal snit fit about his preferred candidate losing an election.
Almost broke my mouse button heavily clicking on unsubscribe.
“Penzeys CEO: Trump voters just committed the biggest act of racism since segregation”
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/nov/23/bill-penzey-ceo-trump-voters-just-committed-the-bi/
The CEO of a nationwide spice retail chain has accused people who voted for President-elect Donald Trump of committing the biggest act of racism in American history since Wallace stood in the schoolhouse doorway 53 years ago.
Penzeys Spices CEO Bill Penzey is facing backlash for comments he made in an email newsletter to customers last week, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported.
The open embrace of racism by the Republican Party in this election is now unleashing a wave of ugliness unseen in this country for decades. The American people are taking notice, he wrote.
Mr. Penzey stood firm by his statement in a Facebook post Thursday but admitted that not all Republicans are racist.
For the rest of you, you just voted for an openly racist candidate for the presidency of the United States of America, he wrote. In your defense, most of you did so without thinking of the consequences of your candidates racism because, for most of you the heartbreaking destruction racism causes has never been anything you or your loved ones have had to experience.”
What an absolute @ss.
Penzey’s ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. There is nothing particularly special about them over any other brand - look at Watkins, or spice islands or any number of other spice companies. Buy in bulk, or go to other specialty retailers.
The point is, they ain’t the only game in town.
I like the garlic festival for one, but it is all garlic based.
This stuff is good: http://www.garlicfestival.com/mesquite-smokey-garlic-seasoning
I can say the only penzey’s spices I have were a gift from several years ago and have never been used. It is nothing I can’t do without or create something as good or better than it either.
Rather DISGRUNTLED Employees as well. Only a 2.4-Star rating to WORK for Penzey’s.

That’s what I’m thinking. Keeping it in the family.
I read about that, too! Wonder if it was, ‘lawyer-ese’ due to sue-happy deranged leftists these days?
Yep. I LOVED their, ‘Sunny Paris’ blend, but it’s something I can re-create - so I’m working on that! ;)
I usually go to Indian, Hispanic and Asian stores for my spices.
I grow my own herbs.
Never heard of Penzeys Spices- most of pour spices come from Walmart shelves, but we also have a natural foods store (locally owned and run and aptly named “The Four Seasons”) that has a huge array of spices and about anything else one who wants natural curatives/supplements could ask for.
Based upon the treatment of the people who didn’t want to bake a gay wedding cake, they should be sued.
If they can refuse spices to conservatives, how come Christians have to bake cakes for gays? I’d love to test out that theory.
so they lost less than 1% of their customers
Since I routinely delete all emails I am currently not interested in I will search for and BE SURE I CLICK ON their ‘unsubscribe’ button.
I wonder how these idiots stay in business?
Its crazy how these liberals think.
I stopped buying from them a few years ago, after Mark Belling featured this company’s antics on his show. I did like their spices, but too bad for them, I have many other options.
I just found a place you’d probably really like: http://www.starlightherb.com
I read about them on food52 forum where someone was asking for retailers to replace penzey’s. A lot of people are annoyed with the political ranting.
I make my own Italian meatball/sausage spice that is similar in nature to what starlightherb makes, but more of a combo between their Sicilian and sweet Italian sausage mix with still a twist on that. My buddy says that it’s brilliant and my wife and daughter love it as well. My whole family and everyone else I know that’s tried my homemade Italian sausage just loves it.
If you’re interested, later on when I get home I can bang out some measurements of what I use on that if you’d like. I’ll even toss in my meatball recipe.
