Microsoft joins Amazon in lawsuit over Trump's immigration ban ("Happy to testify" against it)

Tech companies are joining forces with the Washington state government to fight against Donald Trump’s recent immigration-related executive order. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit today against Trump’s order, which bars legal immigrants and refugees from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the US and bans Syrian refugees indefinitely.

Now, at least three tech companies — Microsoft, Amazon, and Expedia — are joining that legal fight. A Microsoft spokesman told Reuters that the company is providing information about the effect of the order in order to "be supportive." They also would "be happy to testify further if needed."

Both Amazon and Expedia are also preparing statements that demonstrate the order’s negative impact on their business. In an email to employees, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos wrote that the company’s legal team "has prepared a declaration of support for the Washington State Attorney General who will be filing suit against the order." They are considering other legal options, as well. Expedia hasn’t publicly released its statement but Ferguson cited the company’s help in a press release.

The lawsuit will attempt to prove the immigration ban is unconstitutional...

You hit on it. We can encourage PETA to protest the import of “cheap furriners.”

As soon as I heard that old “you’re more likely to be killed by X than a terrorist,” I shut the video off.

Americans now guilty of endangering other Americans. My guess is that many of them still think “it can’t happen here” because they live in rural areas that no terrorist would dream of making a fool of himself in, so a terrorist attack to them is just something to watch on TV and liven up their boring lives.

That penny-pinching tactic is endangering many companies. Tried to order something from a catalogue the other day and couldn’t understand the guy, had to keep asking him to speak clearly. People will use snail mail or Internet and these lovely phone voices will be heard no more.

I can’t use Amazon. The packages get stolen somewhere along the line. I either order from a place with a less tempting label, or have my bookstore order it and I pick it up in person.

There is no way to solve this through Amazon. You lose.

Ciber, a company HQd in Denver, also had a radical muslim as one of its VPs. I had a VP interview with him and all he wanted to talk about was how Carter was a great man and how American must help islam exterminate the Jews.

Well, this alters my long-term career plans. I am a Microsoft developer, so for now I am forced to stay in that stack. But in time I shall move on to a new stack.

An easier way to get these liberal tech companies to see the light is to eliminate the H1-B & OPT guest worker visas entirely.
