Traditional Scottish haggis has been banned in America since the 1970s.
But now, along with black pudding, Scottish lamb and beef, the dish could be back on the menu stateside.
The US Department of Agriculture has long objected to one of the key ingredients in the Scottish delicacy sheeps lung.

I’ll check it out. I usually have black pudding during bk’fast when I’m in England. I did try haggis in Scotland but if you’re going to eat in a pub, take my advice, and skip the haggis.
Myers of Keswick in NYC will mail their bangers. They’re very good.
No grilled tomato?
Kinder eggs are another thing that shouldn’t be banned.
One of the engineers in my group was born and raised in Scotland. He said he has tried haggis on two occasions.
Once drunk.
Once sober.
Puked his guts out on both tries.
Haven’t had “real” Haggis, but the America compliant version is pretty good.
Which restaurant is that, I may have to try it.
oh I forgot about hat, plus two rounds of bread and a round of french toast. Course I was a bit younger when I had all that, not sure I could do it now LOL.
mushrooms too
What about Kinder Surprise???
Also, the beans must be on toast.
There is a little store somewhere off K Street in DC that sells Kinder Eggs. I used to get them for my daughters. I wish I could remember the address...
mmmmmmmmmmmm
...and if not there is always the mackerel pie and oatmeal as a fallback option.
I read somewher that haggis was re-classed as a fertilizer for legal import
I’ve about HAD IT with Haggis-deniers!!!!!
Here is a quote from the great food writer, Laurie Colwin, when she visited Scotland and ordered it for a joke:
“It sounded so dire that we felt we ought to try it. The haggis was brought to our table in its stomach bag which was slashed before our eyes. Out slid the contents, which gave off a very delicious smell. To our amazement, we loved it. It was rich, savory, just right for a cold place and perfect with the slightly bitter turnips.”
You are exactly right. The apostles ruled on this matter authoritatively. It is in scripture as a directive from God. Christians should not knowingly eat animal blood.
Acts 15:19-31
“Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.
Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren.
They wrote this letter by them:
The apostles, the elders, and the brethren,
To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia:
Greetings.
Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, You must be circumcised and keep the law to whom we gave no such commandment it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.
Farewell.
So when they were sent off, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter. When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement.
Yes! My in-laws are in Canada, so we stock up whenever we’re there. They can also be found (for an inflated price) behind the counter of the some of the local markets. But for a kid’s treat, what could be better!
See, Trump is lifting the ban. Call back all the protesters.
So I pasted mackerel pie into my search box and read a recipe. It's basically the same as Shepherd's Pie, with canned mackerel instead of meat.
