The bugs could crash some popular games, but from Microsoft's perspective, it's all part of the beta-testing journey.
The gaming-focused Windows 10 Insider build that Microsoft promised earlier this week, with Game Mode, Beam livestreaming and other features, is rolling outbut with some game-breaking bugs, unfortunately.
Whats officially known as Build 15019 for the Insider Fast Ring also includes a number of more general improvements, including a version of Edge that will read your ebooks aloud and a better out-of-box experience, complete with voice actors to guide you through the process.
If youre hoping to try out the new PC-centric Game Mode for yourself, though, be wary: Microsoft warned that unspecified popular games may experience crashes or black screens when loading, and clicking on certain elements in a Win32 game may cause it to be minimized (and therefore unplayable) unless killed. Even the new Game Mode will show up as OFF when in fact its enabled by default. Also, be aware of one download glitch: The issue Microsoft had with its progress bar is still there, so the download will still show 0% completed even when its actually downloading.

Win 10...WAFJ. If you’re running it, it’s because you have no clue how to make Win 7 or XP work and afraid of Linux.
There is no other answer because Win 10 sucks worse than zero.
Well, we expect bugs and odd behavior from any new Microsoft operating system.
They got things pretty much right in Win7, so they quickly moved away from that to 8.0. And since the odd releases were always better than the even, they were honest enough to not try to sell the one after 8 as nine, but instead labeled it 10, so we would be properly warned.
so can we get this beta? I missed out on the windows 10 deadline for the ‘free upgrade’ (although i did try it out- took it off- then procrastinated, and never did get it before they began selling it- )
oh and ocudl you add me to the windows ping list?
You get access to this and similar beta releases by signing up for the Windows “Insider” program. Google Windows insider and follow the Microsoft links.
I can add you in the morning, I’m not on my computer at the moment, just a mobile.
windoze: all about games. That explains a lot.
Thanks I’ll check into that=- probably have to be a bit of a computer guru though to be accepted as beta tester? Do you know if beta os’s stop being free after the beta tests? Probably what I’d do is try it out on an old failing drive so that it wouldn’t matter if it’s buggy or not as the drive will be on it’s way out anyways- or buy a real cheap drive to use just for it
Playing XCOM 2 with Long War 2 mod installed right now.
Amazingly addictive and very challenging srpg. Long War 2 is n incredible mod.
Love Windows, love games on Windows!
I've noticed a lot of people, who seemingly think they are smarter than the Microsoft geeks, express these sentiments. I feel sad for you that you have no friends who are technically savvy and are too cheap to hire a consultant. You are missing out on a great experience. Back your data up to the cloud, do a clean install, and life is beautiful.
Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm running production Windows 10 on 5 currently-active desktops, The Windows 10 Insider Preview on a 6th, 8.1 on one laptop, XP on a netbook and a second laptop that also dual boots to ubuntu.
It's XP Professional that lives on a semi-retired machine on which I record music with up to 8 simultaneous audio input channels. That machine was also used with professional video editing and DVD authoring software that created 3 commercially-available DVD, all of them dual-layer projects, one of which was a 4-disc set.
Until you came along, I had no idea of how stupid I was to have to fall for Microsoft's Windows 10 hype. Thanks for setting us straight. Maybe I can dig up those old Windows 3.1 install disks...
The Insider Preview releases have an expiration date, but if you continue to accept new builds, no cost is incurred. Build 15914, for example, expires in May of this year.
If your hardware has been activated by Microsoft as a result of a digital entitlement due to taking advantage of the previous 'free' upgrade, if you bought a new machine with Win 10 installed, or if you bought a copy of the Win 10 to install yourself, you can revert to the current production release at any time and incur no additional cost.
Simple participation in the beta program on a machine that has not earned a digital entitlement will almost certainly require you to obtain a license at some point. At one time, it was a legitimate path to a free Win 10 license, but that was then, this is now....
Disclaimer: There have been, and probably still are, some sneaky ways around this, but you'll have to do the detective work to find out for yourself.
Thanks DJ- I want to keep everything legal- not looking for loopholes-
[[If your hardware has been activated by Microsoft as a result of a digital entitlement due to taking advantage of the previous ‘free’ upgrade,]]
That’s the thing- i only tried it briefly in a VM without activating it- it kept nagging to but i never got around to it- Then next thing i know- they discontinued the free upgrade and i only found out about the discontinuation o n the day they discontinued it- just a few hours left in the day too- unfortunately- but that’s always been my luck- had i learned about the discontinuation a few days before, i could have decided whether to register it or not-
oh well-
the reason i didn’t register was because i didn’t know enough about the phone home crap on windows 10- I suppose i could have registered it and gone to a dual boot scenario and just not allowed it to have access to Internet while allowing linux the only Internet access— but it’s all water under the bridge now-
Okay, you’re on the ping list... welcome!
thnaks- i like to stay up on what’s current regarding windows and linux-
