The Department of Homeland Security has asked U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan, a former longtime Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, to step down from his post.
News of his departure, expected within a month, comes as the Trump administration moves toward tougher enforcement of immigration laws.
Two sources familiar with Morgan's departure told Reuters that he held a morning phone call with employees to say that he was not resigning – but had been asked to leave by the Trump administration.
Morgan's ouster also comes the day after President Donald Trump announced a broad plan to crack down on border security, including directing the construction of a wall along the border with Mexico.

From the article I read: The union was incensed when Morgan told a Senate hearing Dec. 1, in response to a question from Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., that he supported a comprehensive immigration overhaul, which is often interpreted to include a path to citizenship for people who are in the country illegally. The guy claimed he was not for "blanket amnesty", but we all know what "comprehensive immigration overhaul" means. Trump probably talked to him and ascertained that he was another amnesty pusher and fired his ass.

Trump is no spring chicken at 70 and look at the energy he has. Sheriff Joe is a bit older but has the same energy and stamina... and more importantly and also like Trump, WILL!
He said he’s not resigning, but I thought that was one of the positions that was supposed to resign with a new president.

Agree, Sheriff Joe was born June 14, 1932 (age 84 years). I don’t know the players but I
expect Trump to pick someone with energy to persue his policies every waking minute.

Wait until he fires all US Attorneys, except the guy in NY who is chasing corrupt state democrats. The press will call it unprecedented in the history of our country.

At the rate he’s going I think he’ll probably be able to play golf for the last 6 years of his presidency. And congress can go home in a few months and not come back.
But Sheriff Clark would be perfect.
I heard the agents cheered when Trump told them they could go back to doing their jobs again.
Morgan was brought in from the FBI to further neuter border enforcement under Obama. Morgan was hated by actual border patrol agents, whose union endorsed Trump.
Morgan was actually fired by Kevin K. McAleenan, the acting commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.
The entire unit needs to be laid off. Zero out the budget for that section, and dismiss everybody.
