Sure, lay it off on the guy who is dead. It prevents you from having to grasp what his last thoughts were, the utter despair.

Everybody thinks they've gone through bad times, but if you haven't gone through something that at least makes you consider that death might be better, then you haven't really gone through bad times.

I've known people with fairly easy lives who are convinced they've had it as bad as anyone. It is a form of narcissistic conceit.
