No, he’s thinking of Duane Allman, not Gregg. Duane was a session player on many fine performances, both credited and uncredited.

By the way, Duane Allman is not only credited on Layla, he is acknowledged on the whole Derek and the Dominos: Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album and is regarded as a member of the Dominos band.

The original point, that he (not Gregg) was a sessions player on many fine performances both credited and uncredited, remains true.

Okay.

I stand corrected.

At 73, my memory must be slippin'.

The great thing about losing your memory is that you forget all the other things you can’t do anymore either...

At 73 you’re forgiven. I’m only 60 and I can feel those senior moments increasingly.

I always believed the whole Layla riff was Duane’s. He was a master at bottleneck too.

I first saw them in 1971 just months after Duane had been killed. Little did I know at that time that soon Berry Oakly would get killed the same way, less than a mile from where Duane died.

In 1975, Lynyrd Skynyrd dedicated their song Freebird to Duane.

RIP Butch. I loved the Allman Band.

I do wish XM would stop promoting how proud Greg was to get Jimmy Carter elected. They are not helping.

Brothers and Sisters is a GREAT album. I still have the vinyl and play it often. Every song is great. (Like Van Morrison's Wave Length LP!)

Thanks, didn’t know that. Both bands were from the Jacksonville area if I remember my rock history correctly.

Butch was Derek’s uncle, and got Derek playing with the band for a while.

In my opinion Derek is as good as Clapton

After watching the video of Derek playing at Clapton's Crossroads Festival, I'd have to say he's getting right up there. Little different style, with the bottle slide and all, but Derek is an excellent musician!

That was Duane, he did a lot of session work and was brought in to play off Eric Clapton.
