Since their primary motive is feathering their own nests, how does the Prez remind them of their higher calling, to actually serve the interests of their members, their ostensible purpose/raison d'etre?
What do Trans Rights and 'Reproductive Health' (abortion) have to do with the everyday jobs of AFSCME and SIEU members?
How to help Union Bosses not end up as HoffaBurger?
I think even the most selfish union boss must realize that dwindling membership (in the private sector) means their own days are numbered. At some level, they have to make jobs a priority.
Agreed. Unions have been starting into the abyss of globalization for some time now. They know the future that awaits them if they don’t play ball.
And I think the also intuit the Democrats’ view on the matter. Which is essentially Darwinian: take your members, uproot them from the Mid-west, retrain them for the ‘knowledge’ economy and plunk them down in Silicon Valley. Or you can wither and die. We don’t need you anymore. We got the dark-skinned people which is the future of this country.
This is a no brainer for the unions. Up to 40% voted for Trump already in 2012. The bosses know this. They know that four years ago Obama deliberately abandoned the white working class vote.
Trump does not have to bribe them. All he has to do is assure them that the trade structures that will be put in place will not only assure their jobs, but create incentives for similar jobs to appear. The response by both the Teamsters and the building/Sheet-metal unions has been phenomenal.
The only one he won’t win over is the government service union. That can be crushed by simply reducing government jobs and size.
Jobs and fair trade. That is the ultimate language of unions.

Good one!
Unleashing $trillions of energy jobs is enough to make the union MEMBERS happy...
I just hope they pass it on to their leaders to STOP USING THEIR MONEY TO SUPPORT SOCIALISTS
:)
My personal opinion:
Winning over Union Bosses: Probability = 0%
Winning over Union Members: Trump must have already accomplished that to some extent in Election 2016. It would be nice if we had some data. In any case winning again in 2020 will require repeating his sweep of OH, PA, WI and MI or at least most of them. So he has to hang on to the 2016 converts and, if possible, expand their numbers.
The key to that is winning over union members (and their wives) and other working class folks particularly in the manufacturing sector. His job growth policies are clearly aimed at achieving that goal. On Day 1 he invites the mostly manufacturing CEOs and the Unions to the White House. On Day 1! The Dems will not fail to see the message that sends. The union guys and gals will also take notice. Trump is well on his way to stealing union members from the Dems in 2020 and hopefully beyond.
Richard Trumka actually had to thank Trump for killing TPP.
This is political log splitting. Trump has found a crack in the Dem Party here that could split them WIDE OPEN.
Keep in mind not much of the manufacturing sector workforce is unionized. This isn’t 1969.
He wins the union members, just not the union bosses.
By telling them the truth that Democrats only want their money and their votes but could not care less about them as people.
They were going ape shits yesterday on Facebook about this.
That's very true. Here's how I see this playing out. If we go by the maxim of 'lifting all boats' with Trump's massive economic infusion via energy you're going to see a lot of people enter the manufacturing sector or returning from part-time work. This will create serious competition between the Mid-West and the Southern states.
Unions are going to have to contend with that. The point being that manufacturing becomes a viable economic sector to seek employment.
Like any liberal group. You must convince them the laws of (insert the groups applicable set of laws such as economics, physics, etc. ) were not put in place to hurt them but are true none the less?
These days “going ape s&%^s” can be either in support or against. Which side were they on, may I ask?
In a good or bad way?
This is a huge opportunity.
The biggest problem I’ve had with Unions over the years is the fact that their Leadership advocated positions that went against the interests of the Rank-and-File, especially with regards to immigration.
If Trump can succeed in triggering major reforms in the Unions, coupled with a switch in Union allegiance to the GOP, the Democrats will be in an untenable position Nationwide, since they will have permanently lost the Rust Belt.
In a Great Way, they all voted for him!
