Diner hospitalised after head chef throws bowl of hot chilli powder in his eyes

It is the question that annoyed Marco Pierre White so much he banned it from his restaurants – a hovering waiter asking, "are enjoying your meal, sir?"

And, after what happened at south Wales curry house, it is easy to see why.

When David Evans, from south Wales, and his wife Michelle gave an honest opinion to that polite enquiry they had no idea what was to come next.

"Tough and rubbery," they said.

The next thing Mr Evans knew was a raging head chef had stormed out of his kitchen and thrown chilli powder in his eyes, leaving the 46-year-old pipe-fitter sick in pain.

Mr Evans had to be rushed to hospital and have drips flush wash through his eyes.

Agree. Chefs, even the hoity toity ones, are nothing but glorified fry cooks. Most need to check their ego.

After Trump’s dinner with Ryan a few weeks ago at Trump Tower, I researched their dinner and found Chef Jean-Georges’ recipes posted online by himself. I wanted to do a fun Trump dinner at home. Each and every one of the recipes turned out to be disgusting. So disgusting most of the meal went into the trash. Even the dogs wouldn’t touch it and they normally woof down everything. Just looking at the recipes, it was obvious they were incorrect such as the cake with only 1/2 cup of sugar?!? Imo, Jean-Georges is a big fat liar who wouldn’t make it at the local McDonald’s. He should be ashamed of himself pricing that dinner for $138 plus an extra $25 for the steak.

Trump’s a notoriously picky micromanager about those kinds of details. I suspect the meal he and Ryan experienced was more than just passible. I also suspect that the recipe posted was intentionally misleading, possibly even incorrect outright.

Agree. Each of the recipes Jean-Georges put his name to on his site and his demos was intentionally outright incorrect. Guarantee that Trump got a delicious meal but I wouldn’t want such a person representing my name.

Years ago, while in college, I was eating at a restaurant with a friend. The restaurant was not known for steak but I had ordered one anyway.

The food was fine. When the manager worked his way through the dining area checking with the patrons stopped at our table he asked me, "How did you find your steak?"

Without thinking I channeled my inner comedian. I looked up, smiled broadly, and replied, "I looked under the baked potato and there it was."

The manager gasped and fled. Next thing I knew there was a large sizzling steak delivered to the table by the manager.

I explained that I had only been joking and that the steak was more than acceptable. It had been a bit small but quite tasty. Despite my profuse apologies he insisted that I accept. My friend and I split it and left a large tip.

Interestingly this became a running joke with the manager. The next time I ordered a steak it arrived with the baked potato sitting on top.

The worst is being with one of those people who are complete and unreasonable power trippers when eating out. It’s like you are exposed to incoming artillery because they are at your table.

There does appear to be another side to the story..”Meanwhile, chef Kamrul Islam, 46, has said he threw chilli into Mr Evans’s face because he feared he was about to be punched.

Father-of-one Mr Islam said: “I ran into the kitchen to get away from him but he followed me. I was frightened and grabbed a handful of chilli just in case I needed to defend myself.

“I was frightened and threw it at him. Chilli will burn but it is not life-threatening. I’ve been running this restaurant here for 18 years and I’ve never had to do anything like this. I’m very upset by it all.”

I consulted at a company where the manager was a fan of Ruth's Chris. We went there fairly often - I didn't care, wasn't me picking up the check.

It's a steak. Potatoes and some sort of vegetable. Tasty, but unremarkable. Is it worth three or four times the price of the local Longhorn/Texas roadhouse, or 10x the price of me buying a good NY strip and grilling it myself?

Not especially.
