I am not computer savvy at all but I know that many freepers are....All of the sudden my laptop's internal speakers quit working. Did a systems restore. Trouble shooter found nothing wrong. Computer thinks the speakers are working but there is no sound. Zip. Nada. Is it time to purchase external speakers?

Maybe a Windows update fixed the problem of your speakers working.
(-:
Seriously, look at your updates and undo anything for the sound. See if that works.

Sometimes you have to reinstall drivers. I’ve had to do that before. Skype sometimes conflicts with other media spps.
To: SisterK
Have you tried Control Panel then Sound and run any sound test there?

I don’t have external speakers or headphones. I hate to go all the way into town to purchase them. But the little bars or graphs that show bass and treble are dancing up and down. That is why I think the computer thinks the speakers are working. I have tried with youtube internet music and a CD.

Your laptop is probably OK. As others have said you need to reinstall your audio driver. An application or update is causing a conflict.
Download the audio driver from your PC brands website, and install.

In control panel, sound make sure your onboard sound card is the default device. Some laptops, paticularly if you are using a docking station, may have more than one sound device listed as an option.

I am hesitant to reinstall drivers, as I have never done that before...But I also wondered if that was the route I should go...

Did you try the ‘drop’ test? Go to the second floor and “drop” it from the balcony. It will make noise.
