Could it be true? Federal Government layoffs? We see businesses doing it all the time while the bureaucrats seem to think they have a right to a job for life.
About bloody time
25% promised to quit (or at least seriously consider it) if Trump was elected.
Follow thru already, folks.
Donald Trump’s NOT going to allow ‘elites’ to rip off taxpayers... ‘bout time someone stood up for us.
Ya know, it wouldn’t be hard to implement server code to automatically search on submission title and if appropriate say “A thread with this title has already been submitted X minutes/days ago; continue posting anyway? You’ll be ridiculed if you do.”
What a wonderful event that will be.
A dream come true...............
Obama’s Czars & Staff fired yet ?
Layoffs are unlikely except for the normal layoffs that come with any change in Presidential party. There will be a few consultants that are laid off for a while until new projects are budgeted. But mostly DC will still be a hotbed of economic action from government over spending.
Why do duplicate posts matter? I honestly don’t get it. If I’m on a “duplicate post” and enjoying it—since it is, in fact the one I saw and clicked on...not the original that is now buried and missed—it’s hard to get why I shouldn’t be here.
To prevent duplication, please do not alter the published title. Thank you.
The FedGov is a major part of the US economy. If it were to begin massive layoffs, we’d end up in one hell of a recession.
Then again, Chemotherapy is also painful, but sometimes the disease calls for an initially painful process if you are serious about curing it.
Acknowledging it’s only 3 days until the inauguration, do we know if P.E. Trump already given notice to some of Obama’s hall of shame hires? Would be great to see them out ASAP.
Ooops I’m sorry about the duplicate post. I had looked to see if there were any other threads about this topic and couldn’t find one. I guess I didn’t look hard enough.
Actually I’ve been looking for threads about news stories on federal government mass layoffs all my adult life. However all I ever seem to see is news stories about how various special interests need the federal government to spend more money, create new bureaucracies, grow existing bureaucracies, protect sacred cows in the budget, and WHAM we now have a 20T debt, its growing with no end in sight, and I spend way more on taxes than I do on housing, car, furniture, clothing, food, health care, education, and entertainment.
Why do we call this FreeRepublic? To be honest the USA is now more like a SlavesToTheBureaucracyAndOligarchyRepublicOfExecutiveOrders now. But it would be sure nice if we could make our country truly free by having the government beholden to the people, not the other way around.
two things:
1) it depends upon what one means by ‘cuts’. ‘cuts’ have predominately meant a reduction in the projected rise of the costs. that is from baseline budgeting, when your starting point is the current budget and you go up from there.
2) real budget costs will clobber the economy, and it isn’t just in those laid off. massive slashing of costs will cause bad things in the economy that will hurt everybody.
to slim down the federal government, i’d start with a 5% across the board cut. by cut i mean you get 5% less this year than last year. if you exempt one part of the government, you create sacred cows that provide political openings for your opponents, and ammunition to your enemies. if everybody shares the pain, you are more likely to get results, by having everybody bear their fair share. and i would do this 5% each year until the budget comes 5% below revenues, the extra to be used in buying down the over debt.
I wouldn't fire but about half of them. Start with "non-essential personnel," as Washingtonians define themselves whenever a snow flurry happens.
