And you thought dinosaurs were extinct.
Video of a massive alligator spotted in Lakeland was posted to Facebook on Sunday, raising the eyebrows of many.

Yep. That’s a big one, but we’ve got gators that size on the local golf courses.
That woman is a bit too close to that alligator!
NOW!
Years ago, we stayed at an old hotel at Wakulla Springs
where they had glass bottom boats. There was a HUGE gator
(stuffed) that some yahoo had shot. The gator was sort of a
pet at the springs until somebody killed him. Of course, he
would have eaten them up if they had crossed his path. I
forget the gator’s name. :o( Stuffy? Porky? Snappy? Fang
says “Charlie” . . . Lord knows.
The state lists all alligators for quantity and size yearly. Not that they see every one. I live 5 minutes away and know of that very large large - Hamilton. Very few access and a large enough food for his.
+1. Troy has harvested several gators in the 12-13 foot range during the show.
it looks super imposed from the picture would a child be that close? or even the people further back?
(did not watch video at this time)
I live down here. Seen them this large and larger. Years ago, there use to be one at Bush Gardens that was over 14 feet long. His mouth was big enough to stretch out in.
This guy probably just ate. He wouldn’t pose any danger. Most gators are scared of humans, unless provoked. They can run fast, but only short distances. Stay away from thier tail.
Had one destroy my cooler fishing in the everglades once. I was on the opposite bank, cooler had fish in it. Had to chase him off. Been cases of people chased up a tree. A gator can’t climb, of course, but he’s got nothing better to do but sit there and wait you out.
He looks like that to me too, probably ate a feral hog.
Up in my neck of the woods we have snapping turtles that will lay eggs in sand traps. Golfers will stupidly assume that because they are turtles they are slow, which is not the case.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you” I said to a golfer just as the snapper spun around and bit off the end of his club.
what happen to the person ( child) that was up close in the picture posted above yours in thread?
Warm winter so far. Breeding season usually not until April. The old codger may just be getting a head start on the younger competition.
You may have also noted he/she may have something extra, also in it’s gullet pouch?
hog cud??
Global warming?
#30 Don’t count on a tree stopping them.

The world’s largest American alligator ever killed in the wild is on display for the first time since it was caught on the Alabama River.
Caught by a woman.

Maybe the people were photo-shopped in?
I, myself have no opinion, but in this day and age of fake news and photos, I can see why this is being questioned.
