The controversy at an exclusive Maryland country club over whether to allow President Obama to join took a new turn when a member resigned Monday.
Jeffrey Slavin, a local mayor, dropped his membership on Martin Luther King Jr. Day because of the controversy, saying he could “no longer belong to a community” with such “intolerance.”
“I can no longer belong to a community,” Slavin wrote in an email to the general manager of the club.
“Where Intolerance is accepted, Where History is forgotten, Where Freedom of Speech is denied, And where the nation’s first black president is disrespected,” said Slavin, the mayor of Somerset, Maryland.
Slavin thanked the club for “many great memories” and signed his email, “Stay Woke.”
A copy of the email was obtained by the Washington Post.
As first reported by the New York Post, the controversy at the Woodmont Country Club, a predominantly Jewish club, stems from Obama’s controversial positions and actions regarding Israel, which have angered many members, including liberal Democrats.

Well, apart from everything else, probably ex-President Obama would show up with 500 Secret Service Agents, and none of the other members would be allowed to play on the same day.

The color of his skin is his character, without it he couldn’t be the first “black president” as the Mayor so eloquently put it.
Maybe the members don’t want the circus that follows celebrities and narcocistic ex presidents? Then again, it might be an old school “exclusive” country club.
It's a pretty Jewish CC, and the ruling members are mostly pro-Israel, and weren't exactly pleased with BHO fomenting the UN vote against Israel.
Ergo, they don't want him.
That was my take from an article last week, but it could be a racial thing, or they just don't want an uppity minor leaguer with USSS protection mucking things up for the rest of the members.

How much does “a local Mayor” make that he can afford to join that club. I heard was almost $90k to join and about $10k a year in dues.
I doubt that "Mayor Sluggo" is bright enough to understand the distinction.

Obama picked that club on purpose knowing pretty much everyone there hated his guts over the Iran deal and his anti-Israel stances. He had zero intention of being a member there.
Imagine the hassle before, during, and after Obama decides on a moment’s notice that he wants to golfing. You’re about to tee off? No you’re not. You’re on the 17th green? Get off the course, right now. You’re in the pro shop? Kindly wait outside until he’s done signing in.
And extensive background checks and pat-downs for everybody.

....Obama was turned down at several top golf courses in Westchester while he was visiting the area over Labor Day weekend, sources tell NBC 4 New York.
I guess the word private doesn’t exist in America until the 20th of January. I guess if I applied to Augusta they would not let me in because I’m Hispanic, not because they don’t know or like me and I wasn’t invited to join!
How is a mayor able to afford such a place anyway?
I can’t imagine any golf course welcoming this golf cheat as a member. His presence will require access control of adjacent holes, he will probably request complimentary membership and will likely not comply with minimum purchases in the pro shop and restaurant. Disruption!
