Maryland school district employee fired over tweet
A social media manager for a Maryland school district was fired over a light-hearted tweet she sent to a student about his spelling.
When the student asked @FCPSMaryland over Twitter on Jan. 5 for school to be closed tammarow, Katie Nash, 33, replied, but then how would you learn how to spell tomorrow? :)
The student took Nashs reply in stride, writing on Twitter that he didnt take it personally, but Frederick County Public Schools terminated her contract anyway.

Ah, the state of education in America... fired for trying to teach.
So telling a student they are misspelling a word is grounds for dismissal in Maryland. WTF!!!?
It’s enough to make one lose all hope.
Going for the almost-sure bet, I see.
There’s got to more to this story. Frederick County is still largely conservative, though it’s becoming a D.C. suburb.
Safest bet in the world today.
The teacher did her job. Political correctness destroys lives.
Madness. This is unreasonable. The teacher needs to be reinstated and paid 10 million.
And people ask me while I don’t do social media. I hate that people have to live in fear for piddly crap like this.
Every person involved in the decision to terminate her should be required to sit at the busiest traffic light in the school district holding a sign that says I am stupid and I get paid for it.
That’s crazy! Somebody saw the tweet and got a hair up somewhere. That’s what teachers do, they teach you how to use the language. This looks like somebody wanted to get rid of her long before this, and used the incident as cover. Weak excuse to put someone out of work. Might be a bad teacher was jealous that this new employee had already bonded with her students. Even if the School District does give her the job back, I would not want to work with that School Administrator. I could never trust them.
Hear, hear!
That is ridiculous. I’m surprised that this would happen in Frederick.
Kids who misspell and use bad grammar online get much worse treatment than this teacher provided.
Later on she is still tweeting (from her private account) that she doesn’t regret her earlier tweet, and that she is still supportive of the school and the students. One tweet went:
“#katiefrom FCPS says do ur homewurk”
Now, I suppose on tweeter (and to be “cool” with the students) it MIGHT be okay to use “ur” due to limits on posting size, but “homewurk”??
Shrek-eisha; Trayvon’s arm candy.
Sue the school district!
For God’s sake, she was just trying to teach the student the proper spelling of a word. I know for a fact that Obamatard destroyed the nation but PC just blindsided the teacher.
A self esteem offense.
