I did one night jump, on a military post, flat open terain,

A large fire in the DZ, to home in on.

About a mile away a group was having a campfire!
One very experienced individual homed in on the wrong fire and came down in some trees.

They found him OK still in the harness.

When ask why he did not climb down his reserve (S O P).
He said, he could not see the ground and did not know if the reserve would safely get him down.

Tall dense woods, freezing rain and ol’DB is not experienced at this.

A shattered ankle or two and you will not get very far.

He was obviously experienced. You don’t pull off a stunt like that and not know how to properly skydive. He was someone who knew the money was on the plane, and had certainly skydived before. He knew exactly what he was doing. The area has been scoured, they never found a body. I believe they found some of the money, but not a significant amount. He made it, and I bet the bills are in circulation.
