A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. ― Robert A. Heinlein Amazing how many people sincerely believe the quote has an implied "or", not "and".

Control. As in, “you have control of the bridge”. The officer in control has responsibility for all aspects of the ship including making way safely and defensive and offensive fire command.

"Oh, well then they just need to learn to speak proper English over there!!!" If George Washington had not defeated Lord Cornwallis in Yorktown in October of 1781 we would still be speaking English in this country.
