A Maryville man was arrested Friday after he reportedly attacked his girlfriend with a taco for having a profile on an online dating site.
Steven Erwin Stokes, 47, Ridgeview Road, Maryville, was arrested by Blount County Sheriffs Office deputies on charges of domestic assault, aggravated domestic assault, failure to appear to address a misdemeanor charge and contempt of court.
He was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $7,000 pending hearings at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday in Blount County General Sessions Court.
Deputies responded to the situation around 9 p.m. on Friday, after Stokes girlfriend, a 46-year-old woman, reported that he had become enraged over her online dating profile and attacked both her and her nephew, who also lives at the Ridgeview residence.
According to the Sheriffs Office report, Stokes had already hit the woman in the face and had began tearing up the house when she locked him out around 7:30 p.m. while he was in the driveway yelling at her nephew. When Stokes returned from a neighbors house a few hours later, and the arguing resumed, he told the woman that if she called the police, he would burn the house down. However, when the woman reached for the phone, Stokes grabbed a taco from the kitchen counter, pressed the taco into her face and smeared it all around, before pushing her down the hallway.
The womans nephew then called a neighbor for help, which further angered Stokes, and caused him to strangle the nephew. The woman unsuccessfully attempted to break up the fight and retrieved the neighbors, who took Stokes back to their house again.
When deputies arrived, they observed severe redness on the nephews neck, a cut on the inside of the womans lip and taco remnants on her face and shirt, as well as cake all over the kitchen floor, which the woman said Stokes had thrown in his rage.
Stokes, who has lived with the woman and her nephew since May 2016, advised that an argument regarding a dating site had occurred, but never turned physical. Stokes also told deputies that he has extreme anger problems that hes trying to deal with, according to the report.
We need a food violence ping list. This is the third story I’ve read today. Grilled cheese, pierogis and tacos.
Or a pointed stick.
They’re both trash, but this still makes no sense. Why waste a good taco? Dump the girl and forget she ever existed, then enjoy the taco.
He should have used a soft flour tortilla, or, if he was really upset, hit her with the whole enchilada.
