The tortured path that began with a left turn onto Dealey Plaza on Nov. 22, 1963, will find its unlikely end point this October in College Park, Md. At a National Archives annex, the last remaining documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy are being readied for release.
Under the terms of the 1992 JFK Records Acta result of Oliver Stones 1991 movie JFK, which revived fascination with the idea of a cover-upthe government was given 25 years to make public all related files. The time is up on Oct. 26, 2017. About 3,000 never-before-seen documents, along with 34,000 previously redacted files, are scheduled for release.
The filesmany of which trace back to the House Select Committee on Assassinations from the 1970spromise to be less about second shooters and grassy knolls and more about what the government, particularly the CIA, might have known about assassin Lee Harvey Oswald before Kennedys death. Already, the law has helped fill out one of the most significant periods of the 20th century, revealing information on military plots to invade Cuba; Kennedys plans to execute a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Vietnam; and the formation of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination.
According to the National Archives, the final batch includes information on the CIAs station in Mexico City, where Oswald showed up weeks before JFKs death; 400 pages on E. Howard Hunt, the Watergate burglary conspirator who said on his deathbed that he had prior knowledge of the assassination; and testimony from the CIAs James Angleton, who oversaw intelligence on Oswald. The documents could also provide information on a CIA officer named George Joannides, who directed financial dealings with an anti-Castro group whose members had a public fight with Oswald on the streets of New Orleans in the summer of 1963.

I saw the writing on the wall for MTV one Saturday night back in 1995 when Headbanger’s Ball was yanked off the air without any kind of explanation or forewarning. Yo MTV raps was, of course, left alone. That was the last time I ever consciously turned the channel to MTV. true story.
BINGO. Kennedy made a lot of powerful enemies.
NO DELAYS. October 26, 2017 it is.
I have been waiting for that day for over 50 years and I hope I live to see it the release of the “redacted” files.
Originally, I had made a note that reads: 2018.
I was a senior in High School on the day of JFK’s assassination.
good thinking
I was thinking Howard Wolowitz.
CIA Director was Allen Dulles, brother of John Foster Dulles, President Eisenhower’s Secretary of State. President Kennedy fired him in late November, 1961. Dulles was replaced by a man named McCone. The CIA was always against a war in Vietnam. Kennedy was NOT. Against the advice of the CIA, Kennedy supported that failed 1963 coup in South Vietnam against its President (I can’t remember his name).
I imagine that day has lived in the back your head for 50 years. I’m sure you are interested. Reagan was President when I was a senior. I remember when he was shot and thankfully not killed.
I have one question I have never been able to get an answer to. Did Robert Kennedy know who did it and why? If I was the Attorney General of the United States and my brother was murdered. That farce called the Warren Commission would never have flown. I would have scorched the earth to find out who and why!
I remember sitting next to Dean Rusk's daughter in one of my classes. Dean Rusk was Secretary of State.
Back then, that was normal in the public schools.
Of course, most democrats back then were to the right of most Republicans in the present day.
In a Dallas, Tx high school study hall, studying for an exam to be given in the next class period. TPTB announced over the school intercom the situation in Dallas. School continued as (somewhat) normal till the official day ended. The test which was to have been taken was postponed for another day. Friday evening Dallas basically rolled up the sidewalks and business (including date night facilities) was locked and lights turned off. Like the nation, Dallas was stunned. The amount of history which took place that weekend will not be forgotten.
All three have since been identified. None were Bush.
If he had become President, he would have probably figured it out.
In one way you are fortunate not to have witnessed his pathetic, crappy administration. And very unfortunate that you have only the re-write of history by the media that elevates him to sainthood as a point of reference.
True, but still wonder if he knew.
Sometimes I think Robert did know. But because he didn’t want his fathers’ corruption and his brothers’ philandering made public, he let it go. J. Edgar had files on everybody. If he knew and he proceeded to run for President anyway, he must have been crazy.
They must be around my age now. I hope they had happy and anonymous lives.
Yes, Kennedy did initially support S. Vietnam, but there are a number of sources that have said he was going to withdraw.
That was allegedly upsetting to the military. The CIA, as I understand it was upset with the lack of air support for the bay of pigs and several other subsequent plans related to Cuba.
With all the claims and counter claims I don’t know that any of us can know with 100% certainty. I do know that Johnson escalated it, and the CIA tells falsehoods frequently.
I do know that Kennedy pissed a lot of people off, and these people had the means and opportunity to get him, and someone did - and it likely wasn’t just Lee Harvey Oswald.
Interesting. The bay of pigs fiasco. The missile crisis. The russians. The very real threat of nuclear war. It makes me think.
No, the Master was on the grassy knoll.
Bingo. Good dead pool choice for 2017. Prior to Oct.
