President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush will attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration this month.
In a statement Tuesday, the former presidents office said the Bushes are pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power a hallmark of American democracy and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence.
The decision makes Bush the second living president to attend Trump's inauguration ceremonies. President Jimmy Carter announced his decision to attend last year.
President George H.W. Bush, 92, is not expected to attend. His spokesman cited his advanced age in a statement to Politico last month about the president's decision not to attend the inauguration.
President Bill Clinton has not announced whether he will attend the event after Trumps contentious presidential race against his wife, Hillary Clinton.
President Obama is expected, as per custom, to attend inauguration events at the Capitol building before departing.

Do you think Odunga is going to keep his mouth shut? Not too likely. But that may be a gift. Look what he did for the Brexit vote. Look what his campaigning did for Shrillary. Maybe Trump should egg him on.
Though you gotta admit it was pretty cool when he showed up in Baghdad on Thanksgiving and served turkey dinner to the troops. Also when he landed on the aircraft carrier in the navy jet all decked out in flight gear. Both occasions made the entire MSM’s heads explode in unison.
Other than that then, yea, meh.
I do think he is genuinely supportive and fond even of our military personnel, I will credit him that. Though there has to be some guilt involved as well regarding the position he put them in as long-term occupiers in Iraq and Afghanistan on the nation-building exercises.
See CNN last August. Addressing a small crowd, P said:
I know a lot of us in this room had dogs in the fight in the primary, leading up to the race. But, you know what? It's time to put it aside. It's time to put it aside. And you know from team Bush, it's a bitter pill to swallow. But you know what — you get back up, and you help the man that won, and you make sure you stop Hillary Clinton.
The crowd applauded.
He said exactly the right thing, particularly for a GOP pol in Texas in 2016.
That photo was at the Reagan Library in California on the occasion of Nancy Reagan's funeral. Within a few days, Hillary was back to trashing W, saying "Folks who get excited by the rhetoric and demagoguery on the Republican side need to be reminded that they are George W. Bush on steroids."
W. did nothing to warn us of what Obama was going to do - as a Dynasty, you’re expected to anticipate that by we plebes that voted for you four times - did not criticize Obama, and did not support the Obama Antidote, which turned out to be Trump.
Hates Ted Cruz, who pulled his bacon out of the fire in 2000, managing the SCOTUS fight that gave W the WH, and W still hates him.
The enabler of my enemy and enemy of my friend is my enemy. Extremely painful to draw this sad conclusion.
