... Well get away from firearms this trip, and look at something else related to personal safety: recognition of pre-assaultive behavior cues.....
Being able to recognize body language associated with imminent violent action can allow you to, in the best-case scenario, disengage and leave the scene. At worst, it can give you time to activate a plan of self-defense soon enough to effectively protect yourself and those for whose safety you are responsible. Danger signals
The eyes, it is said, are the windows to the soul. Often, the way in which a hostile person looks at you can be a predictor of what his plans are for you.
Cops, soldiers, and mental health professionals are all too familiar with the thousand yard stare. This is the person who seems to be not so much looking at you as through you. He may be unresponsive or inappropriately responsive in other ways. What this should tell you is that in this moment he is in an alternate reality of his own, a place where you are probably not welcome. When you see this, start creating distance unless you in fact are a law enforcement officer, health professional, or someone else who has a responsibility for containing and restraining this persons actions.
The opposite of the thousand yard stare is the target stare. This is the guy who narrows his eyes and glares directly at you. The narrowing of the eyelids does for our vision what shutting down the f/stop on your camera does for the lens: it enhances depth perception. It tells you that you have become a very intense focus of his attention.

An oldie, but goodie from police officer, author and self-defense instructor Massad Ayoob.
Discrimination is part of life and survival.
The thousand yard stare is shell shock.

Oh some asshole killed 39 in Istanbul this holiday and he had target eyes
Can’t find the picture but this guy was obvious
Went to the U.K. this spring. At customs, they look you in the eye and ask all sorts of questions. Very friendly about it. They are reading body language. Like Israel does.
The show Brain Games says much of our perception is based on survival instinct. They show about 16 faces for 15 or so seconds. Then they ask “How many are happy?” I think about 50% get it right. Then they ask “How many are angry?” About 90% do!
Reading body language is a very important tool. Are our millennial learning this?
Dude made a video selfie. Whack job.
They often give a clue. like about 20 years ago on a beautiful Sunday around noon when I pulled up to an outside ATM at my bank (I had a CCW and a Colt Pocket Ponylite .380 in my front pocket and a Glock 30 over in my car).
A car in the adjacent gas station sped out.
First clue:
The car went down the wrong lade of the divided road to pull into the bank parking lot.
Second clue:
The car pulled into the handicapped spot right behind me.
Third clue:
There were five hispanic youts all wearing the same red pattern bandannas over their faces.
Fourth clue:
I could hear them ad they were arguing about who was going to get me. “You gettim”, “no you gettim”.
I was done with my transaction and grabbed card and cash and sprinted to my car and Glock 30 that would be more suitable in a 5 against 1 fight.
But, thy were already burning rubber out of the parking lot. It happened so fast I did not get their license plate number. It was probably stolen anyway.

I am coming
