Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

Today’s mail was full of surprises. I got parts of the WSJ, which I haven’t read in years, a book, a fridge magnet, and a beautiful, classy bracelet with my initial on it! I love it! Thank you!

There was also a surprise of a different kind. The lab where I had my last blood test and where my next one is scheduled, has sent me another statement. They sent one last month and I made a note on it that I was told at the time of service that there was no co-pay. “Now, you’re billing me. Would you please explain that?”

So I got another statement for the same thing, only now, they are charging late charges. GAH! They are so nasty that unless I pay it, I can’t have the test that’s coming up.

So, I can either pay this and pay another lab fee on the 8th, or I can pay this and cancel the one on the 8th. I can’t pay both.

I thought Charlie was going on the shuttle today but he met me for coffee at the ramada. He brings me quarters almost every time he goes, but I really need to pay him for them. He has less money than I do.

I think it would be easier to get around if you were four tired. But maybe it’s because I haven’t tried it.

That was quick service for the U.S. Snail. I got the bracelet from the guy who sold me the desk for Tom. He’d bought it for his wife, whose name starts with the same initial, but she didn’t care for the color. “Aha!” I said.

The book has a cat in it. If you like it, I have a couple of sequels. DP buys them for me when he travels to the Outer Banks.

I’ll have to see if the thread originator is okay with it.

I would be more that happy to have the books with cats in them, if you don’t mind sending them!

And I’m going to read whatever in the WSJ interests me, since I can’t afford to buy it. ;o]

Most of my jewelry is silver (the real stuff,) but it’s “fashionable” these days to mix silver and gold jewelry. So I can wear this. In fact, I put it on when I got it and haven’t taken it off, yet!

With any luck at all, I will go to Wally’s first thing in the morning, and if it doesn’t wear me out too much, I’ll go in to get my prescription. Otherwise, I’ll wait until Thursday.

Next time the urge for a trip to the Post Orifice hits me, I’ll send the other books. It has cute Outer Banks local color, too.

The late Igor said there was only one thing wrong with two wheeled vehicles. They didn’t have a right front or right rear wheel. I agree.

I’m sure I’ll learn a lot about the Outer Banks when I read the books and that’s always fun — the learning part.

Reminds me of reading something in some atheist apologetics book trying to explain why rats never evolved retractable roller skates.

Lucky for you, I know what you meant. Otherwise, I would have already sent the Grammar Police to your Place of Business!

I am also the “1776!” choir.

“Sit down, John! Sit down, John! Oh, for God’s sake, John, sit down!”

Anoreth should reread the biography of John Adams, a gentleman whose opinions were backed up with facts. And Latin and Greek.

I’m up and I’ve even had my shower. And now, I’m headed for Walmart. Ungh.

That kitteh is saying, “Why’d you bother me? Can’t you see I’m catnapping here?”
