After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.
Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.
The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his familys homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special.

Rumor has it that line was one of the alternate endings for "Apocalypse Now".
Most of the Polish in these parts are dairy farmers.
And the only thing that terrorizes the dairy farmers is the NY State EPA bureaucrats. They told one area farmer he had to cut his herd size in half (of course directly affecting the quantity of milk he produces and thus his income) because a creeklet that meandered through his pasture land removing non-potable surface water drained into a creek (containing non-potable water) that also meanders through the township that drains into a river (of non-potable water)that meanders through the county and drains into the Hudson River (non-potable also) that meanders through the state thereby rendering the non-potable water non-potable..
Since it’s too early in the year for the bean variety more than likely any poles involved in the outage report would be the old aluminum vaulting kind.
Or barber. (They have razors and could be terrorists - maybe CNN should investigate.)
Or magnetic.. ;-)
But I prefer my olio of tools to a stick of partially hydrogenated artificially colored and artificially butter flavored vegetable oil..
I used to have stamps.com, but found the monthly charge was more than I was spending in postage each month. So I don’t have it any more. It was very convenient because I had no vehicle at the time.
One packet is wending it’s way to San Francisco by the end of the day. Two more will go out tomorrow. The final one will go under the door to the office on Wednesday.
I was looking through some recipes this morning for an idea and I’ve decided I want some corned beef and cabbage, again. I suspect I’ll have to brave the cigarette smoke at a local casino to get it, because I sure can’t afford it this payday.
I want to go to bed. But that ain’t gonna happen.
Going to Walmart would have been fun this morning, I think. Now I want some brownies. Or something. Comfort food. I’ve talked myself into believing that I earned it. ;o])
Can you order a takeout meal from the casino?
Nope. They frown on food leaving the premises because they want you to stay and gamble. There is no such thing as a doggie bag, either. And don’t dare try and take a morsel from the buffet!
So it’s either eat it there, make it here or go without. I love corned beef and cabbage! I may be able to find a Denny’s with it, but that’s not even worth checking out. I don’t like Denny’s.
At least she’s not asking you to pay her.
If you like corned beef and cabbage then you must like Denny’s but you don’t like Denny’s so you must not like corned beef and cabbage but you like corned beef and cabbage ...
(Norman’s brain explodes)
Afternoon, folks. Kathleen had her riding lesson this afternoon. The horse was very patient. The Wolf Cubs are going to the fire station this evening.
I presume you mean actual horse and BSA Wolf Cubs.
‘Cause otherwise those fire station personnel are in for a big surprise.
Yes: real horse, small-boy Wolves.
Wow, that’s amazing.
ONLY if you share with me!!!!
So have you seen “Rogue One,” yet? I’m sure I asked right after I saw it, but I don’t recall, since I’ve had a few sleeps since then.
;o]
BEST Star Wars pic ever! And I have to get the DVD!
Those are amazing eyes!
I’m thinking of going to Vegas to get the prescription, but I’m really not feeling well. I have to go by Friday, or I will have to ask for it again.
I fell asleep at 1730 and woke up at 2300, then again at 0345 when the mattress pad was off long enough to make me cold. (Night sweats are ugly that way.)
So here I am. I need to fold my laundry and put it away but that just sounds like such a hard job. :o|
I have a load of wash in the dryer right now. Bill got off to work this morning without clothing-related ructions. He’s such a slob.
What a piece of JUNK!
