LAXative
LAX's new international terminal isn't too bad, but it's well behind San Francisco - not to mention all of the vastly superior Asian airports. But visitors still get the full "Welcome to America - Now Go Home" experience - massive lines, rude and surly Immigration and Customs officers, antiquated baggage delivery, indifferent ground transportation staff, and a grinning photograph of El Jefe Jug Ears presiding over it all.
Location is the only thing LAX has going for it. If they move it to Palmdale and sell the land off for upscale housing (sounds like just what the city government would try) then why would international travelers fly into Los Angeles at all? Less headache to arrive in San Francisco and take a connecting flight to Burbank or Orange County.
If I have to change airlines, I prefer Atlanta and DFW.
LAX has those problems even in non holiday times. I have been through there and been part of the gridlock.
