An old gray horse headed for slaughter in Mexico recently orchestrated his escape by slipping into a pack of mini donkeys being rescued by a Frisco-based nonprofit, the group's president said.

The poor horse probably saw his buddies ‘disappear’ over the years and realized the jig was up for him.
When I saw “old gray” (whore), I thought they were talking about the NY Slimes.
That horse rescue is across the street from the hospital where my wife works.
That is correct. I will have to look up the etymology to get a hint of when and where it became a food reference. It may be traditional.
IIRC it was because the burritos looked like small versions of the packs the burros carried.
She would have ended up as smoked meat hanging from a hook in some European butcher shop. Horse meat is considered a delicacy in Europe.
I loved this story. I always feel that the Mexicans who slaughter horses so extremely cruelly should be machine gunned. I absolutely hate the whole idea of horse slaughter for human consumption. It’s like taking a faithful pet and exploiting its trust to sell it to slaughter, or to lead any horse to a slaughter house. If they are sick or old, humanely euthanize them. Slaughter is in no way humane.
I agree 100%.
I have the utmost respect for the people who routinely attend each area auction and try their hardest to find homes for the horses so they don’t have to suffer such horrible deaths.
Here’s hoping the Trump administration will find a great solution to this terrible situation!!
