A naval program that has become a target for critics is preparing to commission a new vessel named after a well-known shooting survivor.
Constructed by Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama, the USS Gabrielle Giffords has completed testing in the Gulf of Mexico and is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2017. The company handed over the $475 million ship to the Navy on Friday.

a ship named for a politico who was shot by one of her supporters....too bad the little girl didn’t get a ship named after her....she did nothing to deserve her death...
for the record, I have nothing against GG even though she is just another rat.....but a ship named after her?....my God, with all the guys killed and maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan?..

She did nothing to deserve the honor of having a ship named after her.

It would be more appropriate to name it after her husband.
But, but, she was “spunky.” (when was the last time a man over the age of 25 was described as “spunky?”)
When do they stop naming ships after brain dead morons and traitors.
Trump needs to cancel both namings, Gifford and Milk.
Hope it sinks immediately (but with no loss of life or injuries)
I suggest Trump change the name of this ship to the “USS GLOCK 19”
Just rename the vessel. I just pity the poor kids that have to call it home.
On the other hand, naming a useless, defenseless ship after her seems appropriate.
Why didn’t it get named for one of the shooting victims who died in that attack?
What the heel is wrong with the Navy?
