Attorneygate: Bill Clinton's 1993 Purge of 93 U.S. Attorneys on a single day, March 23, 1993 TheVanguard.org ^ | April 14, 2007 | Richard Poe (Re-post of an old thread)
History is an excellent antidote for hysteria. All the huffing and puffing over the Bush Administration's firing of eight U.S. Attorneys might be tempered by an awareness that Bush's predecessor, President Bill Clinton, summarily fired all 93 U.S. Attorneys on a single day, March 23, 1993.
Why the Clinton Administration initiated this unprecedented purge has never been adequately investigated.

Well, I’m not against that action .. but Clinton got rid of them because they knew too much about Clinton’s activities already .. and he knew he was in trouble if he didn’t get rid of them.
However, I’m not sure the same problems exist now.
But, if you could find somebody who would be able to investigate and interrogate those attorneys, there may be a whole bunch of them who are ready to skuttle all the Obama junk.
I’m happy either way. I am just going to have to trust that whoever is in charge of the attorneys is the right person to figure out if the attorneys are telling the truth or not.
I’d love to see him fire all of the government bureaucrats on his 1st day.
Janet Napolitano, Clinton replacement for Arizona:
- 1991, attorney for Anita Hill during Senate testimony against then-U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.
- 1993, President Bill Clinton appointed Napolitano U.S. attorney for the District of Arizona.
- 1998, ran and won election to the position of Arizona attorney general
- 2003-09 Democratic governor of Arizona
- 2009-13 secretary of Homeland Security Obama
- 2013 head the University of California system.
He's already signaled that he's going to keep one: Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
He should can them all, and let them apply and interview for their jobs. The few that aren’t flaming liberal/communist idiots can be re-hired. The rest - gone.
Doggone few worth keeping.... Down size this bunch.
Republican presidential control for 20 years interrupted by an inept Carter administration for 4 years, left the Clinton’s feeling paranoid, not that they need much to push them toward paranoia considering that they were already under investigation in Arkansas. Their cut throat approach worked.
While there were several crimes committed during their control of the White House worth investigating, most were dismissed as ‘lacking’ evidence, or if there was reasonable evidence, the investigations were grouped in with the White Water probe which was understaffed and too busy investigating too many other people and crimes.
There were no less than 15 individuals convicted of crimes ranging from perjury, obstruction of justice, fraud, bribery, conspiracy and tax evasion to name a few... While the Clinton’s were convicted of no crimes.
Clinton did make a plea bargain of sorts... Admitting that he lied under oath and according the NY Slimes... “He accepted a five-year suspension of his license to practice law in Arkansas and agreed to pay a $25,000 fine. In exchange, Mr. Ray has agreed to close his investigation without filing any criminal charges against Mr. Clinton for perjury or obstruction of justice.” He was actually guilty of both crimes and could have easily been convicted of in a court of law.
So did firing all those prosecutor’s work... You bet it did.
Trump has an opportunity to right that wrong... Hire prosecutor’s who will actually investigate the Clinton’s and their foundation. It won’t be easy... The White Water investigation resulted in many people being convicted and no people testifying against them save one... Jim McDougal who was a known liar and shyster unworthy of being placed on a stand. The reason why... He was dying of cancer. The reason the rest didn’t... They were afraid of dying.
Pretty much SOP for the new President to dismiss all 93 US Attorneys and appoint ones
to his liking. Not all are ultimately terminated but is an action that can take place.
When Bush was about to fire Clinton’s US Attorneys, a very normal event, remember that Hastert, LaHood, Shimkus, Kjellander (RNC Treasurer) tried to keep Clinton’s US Attorneys in key positions because they had an understanding with those Attorneys ... that the US Attorneys would not go after corruption and sex scandals in the GOP.
Of course, there was a quid pro quo with what those congressmen did in Congress.
The GOP establishment feared that deplorable Sen Peter Fitzgerald would sponsor a swamp draining US Attoney, which in fact, he did.
Sen Peter Fitzgerald was the deplorable pre-quel.
Trump to press/liberals - you should treat me just like you did clinton on this, i am just doing what he did.
The Missouri AG at the time had Bill Clinton in the cross hairs. By firing 93 US attorneys and replacing them with handpicked successors, it removed the Missouri investigation of Clinton while solidifying his federal prosecutorial base.
People forget, slick Willy was an AG before he became a very unsuccessful Governor.
Of course not. We've got the opposite problem.
Clinton got rid of attorneys who might have actually prosecuted Clinton and others for high crimes and misdemeanors. Trump needs to get rid of attorneys who refused to prosecute a Clinton and Obama and others for high crimes and misdemeanors.
Lock Her Up!
Well .. in all fairness, it was the DOJ who was pulling the strings, and there were several reports that the lawyers there were outraged over it. So, there may be a really good group there ready to do a great job.
Which means, it was Obama and Valerie who were pulling the strings.
