Excellent alternatives are snowflakes, snowmen or winter themes not directly associated with a particular holiday or religion.

Ummm . . . won't that offend people who live in climates where it never (or very rarely) snows, like southern California and south Florida?

Shouldn't images of snowflakes and snowmen (men?) be accompanied or preceded by trigger warnings to protect the sensibilities of ethnic groups who originated in equatorial regions?

Our town proudly displays a billboard, clearly visible from the major highway through town:

Atlanta [Texas] -- One City Under God."

When the anti-religion pukes complained to our Mayor, he asked them the size of their membership, and they answered, "Over 20,000 nationwide, and over 1,000 in Texas".

His response was, "When you have enough votes in this county to outvote our town, come back to see me. Now, get back in your car, leave, and don't bother stopping here again -- even to spend money!" They left -- and we haven't heard another word from them...

Last Saturday and Sunday evenings we had wonderful Christmas services with combined choirs from our largest two churches -- black and white -- and from several small, Biblical churches -- black, white, and mixed. It was a wonderful time, with a wide variety of music and performance styles (accompanied, self-accompanied, and a capella) -- and camaraderie that felt like a foretaste of Heaven.

It was at that service that the Mayor (a member of our choir) wished us all "Merry Christmas" -- and told the above story about our sign. The response was a thunderous chorus of "Amen!"s, applause, and a loud mix of "Right on!". "Tell it, Brother!", etc!!

Needless to say, we've already been asked to plan something similar for next year...

Santa Claus and a reindeer are religious symbols? Some asshole has been drinking too much spiked eggnog. Definitely worthy of a “drunk while writing” violation. Bears an investigation and a brain transplant, or least a frontal lobotomy.
