Some of us LOVE getting books, especially for Christmas. There's something special about unwrapping a book on Christmas morning - and enjoy sharing with others.
I rarely post anything (maybe five articles in 15 years on Free Republic), but thought this would be a good time for book-lovers to share what we received this morning.
Dreams from My Father
I used it to get the yule log going.

Adios America by Ann Coulter - Christmas Present from my Daughter.
“Passage to Israel” by Karen Bloch. Glossy pictures of Israel and very nice.
I am a certified book-a-holic and everyone knows it....
So as usual...lots of books..
A few are...

My wife takes me to a few used bookstores to browse and I pick my Christmas presents... This year the Half Price Books store in Scottsdale AZ had a good day when I arrived...
As you can see, I’m pretty eclectic...
I left off all the books on Pranayama, The Science of Breath, Sanskrit Poetry, and the medical research texts on autism, MS, healing trauma, psychiatry and a few other medical specialties.
If I live to be 150 I still will not complete all the books on my current “To Be Read” stack. I’ve started purchasing more books on tape to make long distance drives go faster. Problem is I tend to miss exits. I purchased a GPS and hate the darn interruptions... They can be like a nagging wife... as I haven’t figured out how to adjust the volume.
I was given five new books and a $50 gift card for Barnes and Noble. The five books:
By His Grace and For His Glory: A Historical, Theological, and Practical Study of the Doctrines Of Grace in Baptist Life by Dr. Thomas J. Nettles
The Earth Is Weeping: The Epic Story of the Indian Wars for the American West by Peter Cozzens
Boone: A Biography by Robert Morgan
J.C. Ryle: Prepared to Stand Alone by Iain H. Murray
The Life of Martyn Lloyd-Jones by Iain H. Murray
Hunting and Fishing Regulations for Calif.
(Free at Walmart)
Life Lessons from a Ranch Horse.
I'd say quite a few people need to read it.....
I didn't get a book but I got a new e-reader:
Amazon Kindle Oasis
Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 [Lantern - to be delivered sometime in 2017]
Ash vs Evil Dead - The Complete First Season
I didn't specifically ask for any of these gifts but talked about them in one way or another and now my wife got them for Christmas... because I am so wonderful. (She says). :)
I’m enjoying the cute remarks on the thread. Merry Christmas, all.
Had to buy my own books, but finished two of the three:
Trump the Press by Don Surber. Done. Highly recommend. I even reviewed on Amazon as a “schadenfreude fix.” (Okay, I admit I opened it early. In my defense, it was a Kindle version. How could I not?)
A Calvin and Hobbes collection. Can’t tell you the title. (Okay, I opened it early [read half of it, giggling, at the Barnes &Noble store] and re-gifted it to a grandson who shares the same fondness for Calvin’s snowmen.)
Napoleon: A Life by Andrew Roberts. It’s a cinder block of 900+ pages, but I’m into it and finding a lot of comparisons to an ongoing American revolution.
Been looking for The Lion in the Iving Room. (Cmon, smile)
I saw that doc on Netflix. Book should be good
I get Amazon gift cards from the grandkids and some adult children and relatives.
That way, I can order the Kindle books that interest me.
Right now, I have a few unfinished Kindle books, so I will be waiting to use the gift cards. I let the donors know what I get.
One adult son and his wife will be giving me the Amazon Fire 8 inch tablet to replace my dying Acer 8” tablet, they gave me two Christmases ago. It will be my primary Kindle reader and for some tablet stuff when I don’t want to use my Chrome Book as my Kindle reader.
One of our grand daughters is a voracious reader. She gets Barnes and Noble gift cards which become electronic books. In two weeks, she will have read over $200’s in B&N books online before going back to school. Her younger brother is our family IT. He like his grandmother, my wife prefers books.
The best Christmas ever: The Clinton political holocaust has finally been obliterated, Trump has won the election, and the worst President in US history is outta here in 26 days.
The following will start happening in 27 days:
One sunny day in January, 2017, an old man, named Dave, approaches the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue where hed been sitting on a park bench.
He speaks to the U.S. Marine standing guard and says,
I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.
The Marine looks at the man and says,
Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.
The old man, Dave, says,
Okay, and walks away.
The following day the same man approaches the White House and says to the same Marine,
I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.
The Marine again tells the man,
Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.
Dave thanks him and again walks away.
On the third day, old Dave approaches the White House and speaks to the very same U.S. Marine, saying,
I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looks at Dave and says,
Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama. Ive told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Dont you understand?
The old Dave looks at the Marine and says,
Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.
The Marine snaps to attention, salutes, and says,
See you tomorrow, Sir!
The Hiding Place - Corrie Ten Boom.
Fascinating book, finished already (got it on the 23rd) :)
She helped the Jews by hiding them, was arrested, spent time in two different concentration camps. Really makes you think about modern day miracles and God’s intervention in modern times. A real attitude changer.
I just bought the Talbot book on Dulles for myself. Haven’t started it yet, but my pre-conceived notion is that he was an S.O.B. who didn’t have the nation’s best interests foremost in his mind.
LOL! Awesome!!
Thanks for the link. I read the book flap and love it. It is very scholarly done and comes right out on the flap quoting president Obama and then calling him a liar regarding his Andalusian perceptions.
I read the Introduction on the “Look Inside Feature” (except for page 12 which they removed to motivate me to purchase their book)and love the book. Can’t wait to read it.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m ordering it now.
OK you cracked me up with that one. :)
My son got Falling Up by Shell Silverstein. We all read together every night, so my wife got something that all of us will enjoy.
