Sending a jumbo jet low over Altadena? Almost like trying to fly it into the San Gabriels.

A 180 heading after turning left from the 7s at LAX would be a complete circle..

That controller will feel repercussions for that I’m sure. A simple mistake for sure, but a potential catastrophic one as well.

Well 2 180's would be a complete circle. As a circle is 360 degrees. Since the plane was heading east upon takeoff and after 2 lefts was now heading out to the ocean, which would be west, the actual command that was given had to be a 90 degree turn to the left followed by a 2nd 90 degree turn to the left. Which equal 180 degrees, or half of a circle.
But i noticed that problem in the report as well.

It’s the pilot’s responsibility to clarify the controller directions. The pilot of EVA would have to be a mindless robot to accept that vector after taking off from the south complex, a vector taking him directly into the path of the north complex and toward terrain higher than his climb rate.
The pilot isn’t a slave of the controller.

I will agree with you there. He too should face repercussions as well. Not being a pilot I don’t really know if there is a protocol in place, but what you say sounds logical and should be something a pilot should be able to do. Question the controller. Of course we don’t know if he did and it just wasn’t reported in this article.

Awful writing, which is apparently the norm, and acceptable these days.

Major accident caused by a female controller at LAX in the 90's I believe. She gave an airliner clearance to land on a runway another passenger plane was preparing to take off from.
I used to hear her voice scanning ATC channels, sounded nasty. She was gone after that, of course.

It’s not the first time - it happened to Columbus, too.

The plane turned low over an Altadena neighborhood, startling a homeowner who said it tossed her from her bed. This person is a liar.
It takes at least a 6 earth quake to toss you out of bed and there is no way a jumbo jet produces more vibration then a 6 earthquake.
If it did there would have been a line of destruction every place the plane fly.
There is no such line.
