Avocados are great especially in tossed salad.

If you catch the avocado at just the right minute, you can slice it in the shell after pitting and the skin will peel right off of the meat.

But it’s a very narrow window of opportunity. :)

I'm neutral when it comes to avocados. I neither like nor dislike the flavor. My wife, however, is almost cultish when it comes to them. She actually took the pits from a pair of store-bought avocados last year, prepped and planted them, and she now has two small avocado trees in large pots, one of which has multiple branches, and 2nd trunk, and is almost three feet tall! Now, whether they fruit or not (and what the fruit will taste like if they do) is another matter.

I cut mine in half, slap the knife into the pit and remove it. I peel each half.

I use a fork to mash it until there are still some small lumps and then stop.

For each avocado, I add sea salt to taste, the juice from half a lemon and a whole chopped medium to small tomato and mix gently with a spoon.

I can eat it with crackers or just with a spoon.

No onions, no cilantro or anything else.

I got this recipe from a wonderful woman named Birdie at a party long ago. I will be eternally grateful!

We had a couple of plants years ago and never were able to get anything but leaves from it. Too cold here, I think.

They will do better in the house with filtered light than outside with full sun. Also top needs to be pinched off to get branching.

Wifey been trying to nurse along a little Avacado tree here for about 5 years. Tough going and having to move it in during the cold and all that.

Yeah, avocados don't much like the cold. It's why most of them are grown in mild climates, like certain parts of California.

I'm now in North Texas where things like avocado will perish. Reminds me - I've got a jalapeno plant that made it through last winter. We're going to get freezing temps tonight, and I've got to go wrap it.

The skin is thick and easy to peel off with a paring knife. No need for a potato peeler. We are in So Cal/ avocados abound. Were in Germany and they had an ‘exotic foods’ celebration. There were avocados, kiwis, stuff we see here all the time.
